CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
Hi Guys and gals,
New to the forum and have just aquired a relatively new CRF230. I'm in the process of making it road legal and have just installed the lighting kit. It comes with reasonable tyres but they are not road legal and I intend to buy some pirelli MT21's. However the sizes of the existing (80/100 x 21 and 100/100 x 1 |

Re: CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
Thanks, but have you actually used the 90/90 - 21? I haven't seen the tyre but the existing MT320 is 80/100 - 21 and if the MT21 is an extra 5mm either side, this would be dangerously close to the the fork/gaitor? However, I appreciate that not all tyre sizes are consistent and it may fit.

Re: CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
Hi gordon m, i can,t help with your question, but i too have just bought a crf230f 2004 and i am interested in road registering my bike too, so i am interested to see how you get on, so any info would be helpful, as i have heard that when they inspect your bike they can be very picky on things like ground clearance and seat hight ( second hand information ) looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
Hi dangerous.
I got mine registered for the road. In the event it was fairly staraightforward. My bike was a 2007 and I had a certificate of newness and as a result the DVLA examination was fairly cursory and just checked out the lights speedo and tyres. If you don't have a certificate of newness you may have to go for a full inspection? |

Re: CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
I sling any old tyres in mine. MT21's fit perfectly in the front and are a good alround tyre although they can clog a bit in really clay like conditions. On tyhe back a 120 section works well although I have stuffed a worn 140 in with no noticable difference.
Seriously consider a trials rear. The bike will find lots of grip and it's especially good in slippery conditions , rocks etc. A trials tyre will make the most of this. Couple it with an FIM spec enduro tyre at the front. A cheap one will be fine. Finally where are you. Tailor your tyres to local riding. Lots of stone and slipperyness eg in the Peak District = trials tyres for me. Deep mud all the time = enduro tyres. |

Re: CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
MT21s are only ok in my opinion as they don't have much of a sidewall to dig you out of ruts etc if you mainly intending dirt riding. Michelin AC10s or Comp111 and 1Vs are good but pricey. Look for MST and E marking on the sidewalls which are good for MOTs. Got some Maxxis thingys on the DRZ at the moment which are cheap (were already on the bike). HRS in Bristol stock them (but don't have a website). Vee Rubber are also cheap but menat to be ok.

Re: CRF230F Road Legal Tyres
Tis however worth noting the MT21s do have a very solid, if small sidewall. They run a low pressures pretty well I have found and worth considering if you will be doing a load of roads also. If you are looking for better off road AC10s, as Barftone said are great.Look for Mitas also, a lot of guys use them over here and rate them higher than AC10s, especially as they are a lot cheaper
