    crf,230,speedometer.

Hello all of you out there. I'm a new boy on the block and found this forum by accident.
I'm pretty well through a project with the CRF230. I've scrapped the "lighting kit" that came with the bike and replaced it with xr400 headlight, shroud and speedometer. Speedo cable from xr200 fits a treat. The plastic gear box on the spindle has been modified with an alloy sleeve and that's fine. There is a key way in the hub to take the round washer drive key from the xr 400 and the seal fits. All is well so far.
Now the crunch. The plastic gear box scrapes on the edge of the hub and when this bike gets in the N Wales bogs it will simply be destroyed. My question is......Will the front wheel from the xr200 fit into the forks of the crf230 and provide a gap between the plastic gear box and the hub.
I believe it will, but I need to find someone locally, 50 miles say from Wrexham with the xr200 where I can give it the beady eye and measure the spindle.

If it works and I think it will......big success.

Anyone out there that can help I would b pleased to read the replies.

Remember, best keep the round rubber things at the bottom, close to the floor....most of the time.

    Rjc

i have a 2005 crf230f, which i bought new, that was fitted with a cycle type speedo, which works fine and after 4 years of off roading still works ok, just needed some new batteries.

    Re: crf,230,speedometer.

hi, ,managed to take some pics of the crf speedo.

the sensor pick up is mounted on the rhs lower fork,

the sensor is mounted on the spokes near the sensor pick up.
the instructions says that the 2 should be closer but they still work ok at this distance.

wiring run up fork leg, using the original cable ties and some new ones.

speedo bracket just goes around the handlebars,

and speedo is mounted just in front of the handlebar pad.
if you need anymore advice just let me know, i hope this helps.

a couple of things, could you measure the distance from the sensor to the pickup, and also the length of the wire please.

i just bought the kit and cant get it no where near the handlebar, i got it fixed under the h bar but the cable on the censor gets me no where near the hub, I'm half way up the spoke and the sensor is about 30mill from the pickup

and as the spoke is at an angle the the pickup seems to be pointing upward slightly.

    trust my luck eh.

glad to see you have made something to fit
the distance they tell you (from pick up to sensor) in the manual can be bigger and it will still work, mine is twice as far as they recomend.
