The problem you'll have is finding a 'nice engine'.
It's usually a better option to rebuild the one you've got as then you know what the condition is rather than relying on whatever the engine seller is telling you.

Oh, and to answer your question regarding other engines - another CRM250 MK2 engine is what you need. If you look at putting MK1 or Mk3 motors in, you need to consider the different CDIs and carb jetting etc. Don't even think about trying to put a non-CRM250 motor in there unless you have a very well equipped workshop for fabrication etc. The swingarm is mounted through the rear of the engine which can make it interesting if you're looking at a swap.
Of course, you could always break it for spares if it's really uneconomical to repair but that's a shame really.
