    crm 250r mk2

Hi i have bought a 1992 crm 250r and been proper conned on it (
any way it is going to cost way to much to repair so i am praying some one knows if another engine would fit straight in eg like cr or crf etc as it would work out cheaper to buy a nice engine for around £400 that would fit straight in
thanks for any info regards joe

The problem you'll have is finding a 'nice engine'.

It's usually a better option to rebuild the one you've got as then you know what the condition is rather than relying on whatever the engine seller is telling you.

    What's wrong with it?

Oh, and to answer your question regarding other engines - another CRM250 MK2 engine is what you need. If you look at putting MK1 or Mk3 motors in, you need to consider the different CDIs and carb jetting etc. Don't even think about trying to put a non-CRM250 motor in there unless you have a very well equipped workshop for fabrication etc. The swingarm is mounted through the rear of the engine which can make it interesting if you're looking at a swap.

Of course, you could always break it for spares if it's really uneconomical to repair but that's a shame really.

There was a crm 250 engine on evilbay a few weeks ago for 275!

so you can still find them out and about, the crm 250 is worth a small fortune in spare parts! if you break it up give us a shout and i will cross your palm with many pieces of silver and gold

    Re: crm 250r mk2

I have a MK2 CRM and have to say its the best trail bike I've had after an XR250 and CRF250X.

Its done 40,000Kms and had a recent engine rebuild by Leisure Trail costing £450 which included new water pump shaft, seals and bearings, main bearings, seals etc and new rings, gasket etc.

I look after it and so far its never let me down and puts a big smile on my face whenever I get a bit carried away with my right hand

I've just put some new wheels (ex AR bought for £125) and the previous owner (who I know well) did all the linkage, shock etc., so to me, its a great bike, and as long as they are looked after they will go on for a very long time.

I've just done a three trail riding trip from W Yorks to Northumberland and back and it never missed a beat.

Repair the motor yourself or if unsure get someone who can, as SH one bought out of the frame will be just as bad as yours. Trust me we have all done it for a quick fix but unless you know the engine leave well alone.
