    Talking Newbie with crf 250x

Hello people just joined and seems like a very usefull forum as the title yesterday i purchased my first off roader a 54 reg crf 250x and after doing a 360 mile round trip i'm very pleased with it. I just need to get it threw the m.o.t the only thing is the brake lights dont work. When the bike is running the lights are constantly on but no brake light. Ive found that it does'nt have the banjo's with the brake light switch's so i'm going to put them in but i dont know whether the crf's have the wiring already in place so you are able to just plug and play or if you have to add any relays or wiring to make the brake lights work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Newbie with crf 250x

ive been fiddleing about with the bike this afternoon all plastics off the lot and theres quite a lot of wiring underneath it and ive been speaking to a friend at work and he thinks that all i should have to do is put the hydraulic brake light switchs in and find where they need to be wired in and it should all work. The only thing is if the tail light works as a stop light aswell if it does'nt you can buy a direct replacement from a company called motrax it has 8 led's instead of 4 thats what puts the boubt in my mind that the original stock item is only a tail light. When i find out more i'll let you know.

Does your owners manual not show the wiring diagram?

My 2005 450X handbook wiring diagram shows no reference to a brake light and indeed it does not have a brake light, if it isn't fitted with one from the factory...it doesn't legally need one

Ebay item numbers 170491320242 and 370353789297

I also have access to a 2002 450R which has a lighting kit fitted...this does have a brake light wired to the front brake lever

I believe this place is Ok for help with lights and wiring problems Enduro & Motocross Bike Lighting & Road Legal Conversion Kits

Nice to see some more people in this section...i had stopped coming in for a look as it was so quiet

    Re: Newbie with crf 250x

Ive got a tempory solution ive had a daytime mot put on the crf then when winter gets a bit closer i'm going to buy 2 banjo's with the brake light switch's front and rear get a drc rear light as they have 8 leds, 4 tail and 4 brake and also buy the light switch gear from ebay to turn the lights off and switch from high and low beam it also has a horn button. then buy a kill switch with an integrated start button and move that to the right hand side of the bars. Sourcing the parts this way is a hell of a lot cheaper ive worked it out to be roughly £80-£90 when the kits you can buy are in exceess of £200 (no thanks).
ive got a haines manual with the wiring diagram and from that it looks pretty straight forward.
i'll keep you guys posted when i start the work.
