Hi , New Dominator Member Here.

Hi just bought myself a 1996 dominator, which I am going to use mainly as a commuter to get Crystal Palace to Central London (9miles approx). Good idea this forum. I've just changed from a Ktm LC4E in supermoto trim to the dominator. Change is always good. At least I can leave it outside work without some blitter trying to nick it(well i hope so anyway!!)

I bought privately, and haven't yet got a hand book/haynes manual, and needed a little advice for my first commute tomorrow. What is the correct tickover rev? Also, occasionally on tick over it does a little cough ,sounds like its going to die , and either runs on or does actually die! Any body else had this little niggle ? The tickover is at about 1500/2000 revs at the minute.
    Apart from this its great.

    Thanks

Hi matey, Nice to hear of another Dommie rider. As for the tickover, mine is set at 1500rpm and remains pretty constant. Dommies do have a bit of a reputation for cutting out, especially when waiting at the lights Usually the cause seems to be weak mix at the pilot screw. Check for air leaks on the inlet manifold then twiddle with the pilot jet. Can't remember if you need ot take it out or in 1/2 a turn, but try it (then re-adjust tick over) and see. I was told to start at 2.5 out, start bike and set tickover to 1500. then twiddle pilot screw till you get max revs, then adjust tickover back down.
Best of luck with it anyway

Cheers for the welcome folks . I forgot to mention that the previous owner had owned the bike for nearly 8 years and only ever changed the oil and plugs during the 3000 miles that he did on it!!! It's only done 5500 since new.!! The tyres are 8 year old dunlops, maybe there are the originals from new!! Any body want an original set of tyres to stick on their all original Dominator!

    Cheers

Nice one. I tried to look at the tech/servicing chapters earlier but couldn't open them. . Looks like either carbs/valves or airbox - the stuttering I mean. Cheers

Download them here - the pages are for an '88-91, but might be of use for later bikes.

    Hey Stilgoe..

I commute from just outside Eltham SE9 to Kings X everyday on my Dommie.

Live in Sidcup originally Lee SE12.

My bike used to cut out all the fekkin time
...as a quick fix I upped the idle (when engine hot) to just under the 2000rpm on the tacho or revometer or whatever you call it...now from cold it doesn't cut out (as much )

Think I'll try the pilot screw thingy job as described by Squirrel..now I just need to find out where it is
