Re: Dominator Acerbis long range tank for sale

The pictures in the 2nd post are not accurate!

    First pic: '96 model (23L)
    Second pic: '92-'95 model (23L)
    Third pic: '88 model (21L)

This is 100% accurate (and if you look at the bike you'll see why).

    Now...

'88 tanks can be bought from some guy that ordered 25 from acerbis a while ago. He asks exactly what he paid for them (250$ or something), plus shipping of course. Tanks for the other models can be ordered right now from an Italian buying group (180 euro new, plus shipping).

It is I who has found the answer.

In short: NO. But you can chip in on a group buy for the LAST batch of acerbis 23L tanks for the NX...

    Another thread:

    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/dominator-fmx/38988-acerbis-gas-tank-nx-500-650-dominator-92-03-a.html

It's a group buy that will likely happen at the start of September. Price is about 180 euro + shipping. There's already someone on this forum (besides me) that wants one; maybe you two can combine shipping? Better post on that other thread for info.

EDIT: Oh, a '90 dommie. There's a guy on ADVRider.com that sells brand new acerbis tanks for your model.

EDIT #2: Here's the ADVRider Thread. Look on the first post for the guy's contact info: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=323333

I've found a 'new and unused tank' on another forum - it looks like the guy has used the same photo as the black one here. I've got a 1990 Dommie and he tells me it would fit. I emailed Acerbis for info and someone called Doug replied that, 'as far as he knew, all Dominators were the same,' so that was no help. Has anyone tried the black tank on an early bike? Does it fit, or would I have to trim the fairings, or make up some new brackets? Any help appreciated. Cheers

    I can help here.

After taking part in a group buy last year, I had two dommie tanks on my hands: one for the 92 model and one for the 97 model. They are literally IDENTICAL. Absolutely no difference, except that they fit the 92 model MUCH better. 96-03 needs to push to get the fairings on. Still a fine fit, though you need to use SOME force.

However when you bring in 1st generation dommies into discussion, you have a problem.

    The following models:
    NX 650 J (1988, drum brake model)
    NX60 K/L/L2 (1989-1990)
    NX 650 M (1991)
For the 1st generation of dommies. They all have RD02 frames but in terms of fairings, saddle and fuel tank, they differ drastically from the 2nd and 3rd generations (which are more or less compatbile).

For reference, the first pic is a 1st gen dommie and the 2nd is a 2nd/3rd gen dommie:

    Back to your fuel tank.

The tank for the 2nd generation WILL fit 1st gen bikes, but...
    - front fairings won't line up
    - rear fairings won't line up
    - saddle won't fit properly

Re: Dominator Acerbis long range tank for sale

Thanks mate - great response, and quick too!

Your picture of the 'first generation dommie' could be my bike, except the graphics on the tank are different and I've fitted Predator stainless steel silencers (same price as oem replacements but made to order, road legal, better torque/power delivery, and they sound wonderful). Oh, and my fork gaiters have gone a bit pink with age.

I don't really want to be hacking around at the fairings, though that would be a nice job to get right, but the seat fit could be more of an issue. I'm not sure whether it's worth it, but on the other hand these tanks don't become available very often... I'll have a think

    Thanks again for the advice

    Cheers

You could buy a full set of 92-95 fairings + seat to go with the tank.

This is getting to be an expensive mod! Not a bad idea though...

I shall carry on thinking about it today while I do my chores, then check back on the other forum to see if it is still available tonight and make a decision.

I suppose I could just leave well alone and carry on refuelling every couple of hours...

    Cheers again
