    Alpos panniers fitted

Well, finally got around to fitting the Alpos panniers supplied by Caveman of this fair site

I took them up to a mate on Friday night in the car as he has a garage etc to work in, and then the pannier fitting kits arrived from Touratech yesterday (ordered on 27th and 28th March ).

Followed the instructions (translated the German ones last night, then a guy on UKGSer.com sent me the English instructions from Touratech USA), but it was all fairly easy to work out.

Although the instructions state to do the bottom pucks first, we did the top ones with the locking levers as it made more sense to us

They went on very easily - apart from continually forgetting to put the O-ring in the top pucks before tightening down etc

    Finished pics:

    Rear

    Front

Looks good. Now you can start your sticker collection...

How wide are they on the bike?

Yep - short rear indicators to be bought and fitted too at some stage, as I have to bend the factory ones to open the lids

I'll measure at the weekend when I go away to Yorkshire for a short break with them on.

Got a few ideas for stickers, and will have to order an xrv.org.uk one soon :P

I got blown about a bit, but probably not a lot more than normal, and fuel consumption wasn't noticeably affected - got 142 miles from the tank before filling up in Preston (11.82 litres in a 13.5-l tank ) and that included a fair bit of up and down the gears through the Dales, town work through Leeds, Ilkley, Lancaster, Garstang, Blackpool etc

    Re: Alpos panniers fitted

what is the max weight you have had in your Alpos panniers, I bought some for my Honda transalp xl700va and the SW motech frame said 5kg. I am going to have a tour round scotland but think this is slightly on the safe side of caution.

I have had a lot more than that in mine closer to 20 in each.
Both are 41 ltr panniers on a 650.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
