    Quick Questions

How much does a dommi weight in kgs?

Were there any major changes or differences in production run of the bike? (i.e is an earlier one better than a later one, and if so why?)

Haven't a clue what they weigh, but a lot less than a XRV

As for changes, early ones came with drum rear brakes and at some point the front indicators got moulded into the fairing, rather than on separate storks, but thats about it really. I'm sure someone will be along with a long list of changes (like mounting brackets for the exhaust etc), but basically nowt of any significance got altered I believe.

I've found a word document detailing changes to dommies and frame numbers, but I have absolutely no idea how to post it here Could email it as an attachment off forum if you like, or maybe someone could educate me

    I'll wait to hear.

i have a 89 and it doesn't have a drum brake. Weight i think dry is 160kg. Having both an @ and a dommie the dommie is so much easier to use off road. My only problem with it is the gearing. I find the @ is far better gear wise off road so i'm thinking of adding a larger rear sproket to try and help things on the dommie.

The drum brake is something that only the US model has. (Like mine.)

The US models don't have a kickstarter (more's the pity) and a pretty shabby nonadjustable rear shock.

The longer you look the more changed things you notice. There's quite a bit different along the years.

Engine's the same for all of them I think, but fairings exhausts brakes, all have changed at some point along the line. The frame, even.

Weight of the old ones ('88-'90) is 152 kg dry according to the official docs, dunno what it is in real life though.

And I've had a bigger rear sprocket on mine. 47 instead of the stock 45 teeth. Fabulous ride, but your top speed goes to hell. Which was the reason I went back to the stock 45 teeth, it got too buzzy at motorway speeds. (Which it still really sucks at anyway)

152 dry, 167 wet, that's 13 liters of petrol and just over 2 liters of oil, 15 kilo difference sounds about right.

That's pretty light for an allroad bike with a fairing if you ask me.

I wonder what mine weighs with the plastic acerbis tank and the laser can instead of the standard dual scrapyard cans in the back...

    Next question...

Tell me about the top end. Is it right that the camshaft runs directly in the head with no replaceable bearings? An expensive fix if it runs dry?

Looks like something you should be able to get from SKF or similar...

I think it was the old XL500 that had no bearings, that bike has built a bit of a lousy reputation for the honda RFVC engines, especially the dommies seem much more reliable.

That said, running dry is always an expensive ordeal... Best to avoid it altogether.

Wow! Excellent response time Mr Chicken...or may I call you Rubber? That's very interesting - I'm swaying towards a Dommi rather than an XT, something to do with brand loyalty I think!

OK next question based on the premis "If you don't ask, you don't get!"...

Anybody want to swap a Dommi (or an XT600) for my FJ1200?
