    Road Legal Exhausts

    Hi everyone.
A few months back, my original Honda exhaust pipes decided they no longer wished to remain intact and threw themselves at the mercy of the Rust God I then fitted a pair of GeForce pipes (not for road use) that came with the bike. (The guy I bought it from had them specially fitted, rode it home and decided he thought they were too loud so put the old honda ones back on) .
I've now learnt that I'm going to have to rejet the carb to get the bike to run properly or else risk it basically melting Which leaves me with a bit of a quandry, do I.....

    A) spend out on a new set of road legal pipes and leave the rejetting, plus be able to get it through the MoT.
    B) rejet it and keep the Geforce pipes on and also spend out on another set of road legal pipes for MoT time, with the added bonus of it being a quicker better bike

Since I'm going to need a set of road legal pipes whichever I go for, does anyone know anywhere that I can get them at a good price, new or second hand

    Thanks in advance

I don't know about them passing MOT or anything (as we don't have that here ), but I have a Laser ProDuro street legal version, which sounds verry nice, comes with an E stamp, and doesn't require rejetting. (This does not apply to the sport version, mind you!)

It also does exactly squat about more horses, but if you want to improve that by a noticeable amount then you'll need loud pipes...

you could try and fit a REMOVABLE BAFFLE /decible killer (db killer)/ silencer/baffle insert, I dont know what this will do to you MOT passablility but you will reduce the noise of your pipes... G-force dont offer em on there site but it may be worth a phone call

    they are something like this...

Thanks chaps. Believe me they are loud... very loud. And I have actually put baffles in them which reduces the noise by about a third. But they still have "Not for Road Use" stamped on them

I'm ringing round breakers for exhausts. Found this one...

Got a feeling the pipes won't fit my bike though, as if I remember correctly ,later models only had one lug on top of each muffler to attach to the frame, this one has two. Unfortunately the bike is in my parent's warm and cosy garage while it convalesces, so I can't take a look to see how many it has

    Cheers

The one in the picture is indeed an older model, if yours is '95 or later then those cans won't fit.

Besides, given the look of the rest of the bike, I have a feeling those cans won't be in good nick either, it'll only be a matter of time.

As is often the case Rubberchicken is spot on.

For my money I'd go for a road legal Produro and forget any rejetting. What you need to bear in mind is the bike needs to be legal all the time. You might well pass an MOT then swap back to your loud pipe only to get stung by a roadside check Frequently newbies ask about getting more out of their Dommies, and it can be done, but why?? The humble Dommie is a workhorse and ain't never going to win any races. To squeeze meaningful power out of the motor is going to set you back big bucks.
I readily admit to being the forum grump, but get the Produro, sell the race pipe to offset the cost, and enjoy your bike without worrying about going bang or getting nicked.

Best of luck whatever you decide

I recently bought an Arrow Paris-Dakar replica exhaust which has removable baffles. however on the box it says they are not for raod use. i thought the point of removable baffles was so that when they are in the exhaust, it is road legal, and once removed, they become 'naughty', but now im not so sure. even with the baffles in, they are fruity but at town speeds are not obtrusive, ive not tried it without the baffles, i reckon that would just be taking the piss! they do transform the bike into a rev hungry, fun and responsive toy, which is how i like it.
As for rejetting, ive check the sparkplug for sighn of overheating, but theres no sign, in fact it shows a perfect burn, so i dont really know how necessary rejetting is, probably depends on the exhaust. Also, theres no change in fuel consumption which might idicate a change in fuelling, so im not worried.
Id thoughrly recomend this exhaust though, its makes the bike so much better.
    Hope this helps

This may be interesting: I don't know if they sell internationally but it can't hurt to ask: Siccama Sales in Groningen, Netherlands apparently has a pile of b-choice street legal laser produro cans. I've been told that they go for 200 euro, including the collector pipe and stuff. Which is a pretty decent price!

B choice means there's small scratches on 'em or something, nothing serious. I've seen one of these on a transalp, and the guy had to point out where the marks were. Nothing you won't put on yourself within a month of ownership, so to speak.

Their site is dutch-only and doesn't mention these anyway. But you might want to try emailing them, there's bound to be someone there who speaks english.

On the other paw, actually getting one delivered might be a bit of a trick given Scott's ordeal. This is apparently normal for Laser as I had to wait 2 months as well when I bought mine brand new back in 2003... Not too impressed with that.

Thenagain, I've heard good things about Siccama wrt delivery times, so maybe they keep some in stock.

Fitting the laser can needs a bit of tinkering, as they don't fit out of the box. Nothing that can't be fixed with a metal saw and/or grinder and a couple of decent jubilee clips, but just so you know.

Finally, the street legal produro has a nice fat low sound without being overly loud or obnoxious. And they're pretty well built. Mine is still going strong 35000 miles down the road in any and all weather...
