    Off road riding?

Hi to all. I'm a newbie to all this, so sorry if these seem stupid questions.
I recently parted with my old Fireblade and now have got a NX 650 Dommie.
Should have done this ages ago, you don't have to go fast to have fun. These machines are a blast.
I now fancy venturing off road. Are these bikes to big for greenlaning, also are there any events that you can enter.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

Ive tried a bit of green laning on mine and its not the most confidence inspiring because of its weight...and the tyres ive got on it (bridgestone trailwings) are not that good a tackling muddy terrain because although they are more knobbly than some, there is still a lot of flat surface area so the knobbles dont dig into the mud very well.
If your not too worried about dropping it then i should think its good fun, but its more at home tilting the horizon on tarmac which it does REALLY well.

Too big is entirely up to the rider...

People go mudplugging on 1200cc BMWs, it's not the best tool for the job and neither is the dommie, but hey everyone's got their kink...

That said, the dommie is a nice compromise, pretty decent roadbike, pretty decent trails bike, and if you're just a bit mad then it's capable of a whole lot more.

    Welcome

What have you done - firblade to a dommie Nice choice

Dommie is a fine on and off road bike - unless you are going to do regular hard off road riding/competitions. If you get into the off road in a big way, youll probably kill it after a while - its good but not that good - i'm thinking more of the suspension here.

Ive used mine at Salisbury Plain and had a fantastic time - twas a long day tho, and covered about 400 miles altogether. Do the odd bit of greenlaning in Essex and its a great bike for it

Lots of nice plastic to possibly break if you should fall off tho.

    Have fun.

compaired to using my africa twin off road the dommie is so much easier. I must say that the right tyres make all the difference. I have a really grippy front on and it means i don't have to worry about the front wiping out which is a problem with my twin

Indeed, tyres are the easiest way to make it a lot easier offroad.

Part of it is tyres, part is skill, and part is sheer bloodymindedness.

Fully laden RT on road tyres: mad skill.

Super Magna on road tyres, very much a case of "just do it".

I have Conti TKC80s on my dommie, which is the perfect allrounder really if you want to go offroad. Decent enough for trails and stuff (especially if you let some air out) and grippy enough for serious cornering on the black stuff. (In fact you need to do some hard corners every now and then, they square off fairly quickly.)
