Cant get the front axle out !

Hey everyone.

My speedo has given up.
Checked the cable seems fine.
I removed it from the clocks and rode up and down the road but the inner 'bit' wasn't turning.
I removed (eventually) the securing screw at the wheel hub on the speedo pickup gear and with the front wheel off the ground spun the wheel, the inner 'bit' of the speedo gear wasn't turning
I decided to remove the lot and inspect, however I cannot get the flippin' axle out, no matter how much I huff and puff. It's all back together now, while I figure out how I am going to remove it.

Any ideas ?

You did know the axle screws into the left fork leg, right?

You have loosened off the four 6mm nuts on the bottom right hand fork leg which locks the axle & then unscrewed the axle which is threaded into the bottom of left fork leg as Rubberchicken has mentioned.

.....and take it easy when you reinstall them...I've already sheared one ....I think they are 12nM - but dooooo check !

OMG...I didn't know it "screws" in/out. I was even using the Honda manual and didn't notice that bit

Don't worry Scott we've all been in the sh t at some time, & as Confucious says be very carefull about the tightening up, yes it is 12nm. Cheers Richard

And yeah I know the feeling, had the reverse feeling with the GS recently, shortly.

OK. I have discovered the fault. The little plastic gear in the speedo hub is broken.
Take a look at the pictures

















I bet no one sells them, I bet I've got to get the whole bloomin' hub.
I'm gonna try WEMOTO and Honda....Honda should keep it, I hope.

Hi Scott, I think Rubberchicken is right because I am looking up the same type of speedo drive for a CBR600FH (1987) & the Honda parts book for that bike list the complete speedo drive & the individual parts, so have a crack at David Silver Honda spares tel no: 01728 833020.
