Convention says no - but hell and damnation to convention![]()
I fitted a 22 ltr Acerbis tank to my 88 dommie with no major problems - although it wasnt easy - the mounting lugs where the tank hooks onto those rubber grommet things had to be cut off, and i had to make new brackets to support the tank, - lots of on and off of parts, and messing about, but it works very well.
Plus the dommie seat does not fit properly up against the tank - i used race seat foam to 'fill the gap' .
I'll try and post some pics for you tonight.
Cheers
Ant.
Thanks Anton,
It was my understanding that the XR tanks came with a fitting kit so you could adjust to the tank posts.
Or is it that the Dommie posts are to wide to accept the tank ?
Yep - they come with a full fitting kit, but it didnt work for me, as the bike was wrong![]()
To be honest, you need to be brave or lucky or both - mine only just fitted, if it didnt, i'd have sold the acerbis tank and gone back to standard.
If you can get hold of a cheap xr tank then give it a go, or buy new and try it - if it doesnt work, you'll have to sell the tank and maybee lose out a bit.
The tank i bought was actually for an xr 650L. The way i've fitted it, it sits about 2" above the downtube over the engine - so i havd to make 2 new front brackets anyway, as the ones supplied were not long enough.
Sorry i cant be more specific - i found it near immpossible to get the sort of info i needed to make a choice on the right tank to get and which year (as this might make a difference also) - i took a gamble and it paid off - just![]()
Hmmm, didn't really want to cut anything because I want to keep the standard parts with the view to putting it all back as was if needed.
But want the hell, was watching an XR600 tank on e-bay, but it ended at the weekend when I was at work, so missed it, not to worry because I was also watching an XR250/400 tank too. Until the brother-in-law came around tonight for a few pints, just realised it ended tonight, a few hours ago whilst down the pub.
First went for a tenner, second for fifteen of our good English pounds
