Soft panniers / saddle bags = off the exhaust ?

I am thinking of a pair of Oxford soft bags , I think the "humback" model.

Anyone got some soft type bags on their Dommi ?
If so , how do you keep them off the exhausts ?

    Any pictures ?

I am not sure if they straps will keep the bags off the pipes ? Or perhaps if I strapped them a little forward ?

The standard NX exhausts are pretty short, so keeping the bags off is only half the trick, exhaust gas is hot and if that flows past the bags...

Anyway, I've had a set of cheap throwovers from Louis.de on the dommie (with ProDuro can) and I had to improvise some kind of rack to keep the bags off the exhaust (right hand side) and out of the rear wheel (left hand side).

The remnants of the improvised rack can be seen here:

Yes, that's a bit of PVC pipe which together with a bit of wood taped to the left bag was sufficient to keep the bag off the wheel for a day or 2.

The exhaust side had a similar piece of heated and bent PVC taped and ziptied to the side cover and indicator stalk to form a cover over the exhaust. This didn't really work well, and I've got the melted plastic on the can to prove it.

Did I mention this was improvised?

Oh, and I had the bags sitting pretty far towards the front of the bike:

Ok thanks , so your bags didn't last that long ?

My bike has twin exhausts so I'm going to have to make soemthing on both sides.

They survived actually... Somewhat singed, but still serviceable.
The stuff that got stuck on my exhaust was a bit of tape on the bag.

But nonetheless I would recommend something a bit better than PVC pipe.
