Question Hi I'm new.... just wondered about OXFORD PANNIERS on Dominator

Hi I'm new to the site, and new to the road. My first bike is a Honda 91 Dominator. I think it's great....

Just a couple of questions from those who have had these a while. I wanted to take this bike touring, maybe round UK, france, etc. Just wondered if the engine would handle it and what speeds the engine would be safe sitting at for long periods.

Also when touring I was also going to fit some OXFORD PANNIERS to the bike, but wondered if I am going to have any trouble with those high twin exhausts coming out close beneath them.

    thanks all, Roger

Distance isn't an issue for the bike, as long as you keep an eye on the oil level - I did two trips last year (South of France and Dolomites), and my '88 was happy enough sat at about 75mph on the autoroutes.

The question is probably more on how you will be - the original seat wasn't the most comfortable (I'd forked out for a replacement seat), and I got on OK with the vibes. Mine had a kph speedo, so anything above about 120kph (75mph) and it was a bit more vibey than I was comfortable with.

    welcome matey
No problem touring France, or anywhere else come to think of it on your Dommie as long as you want to take your time. Motorway mile munchers they are not, but stick one on a twisty 'A' road and enjoy the ride A Dommie should hold a steady 65-70 MPH all day and not burn too much oil (least way mine does) but things get a tad uncomfy at 75-80 from the vibes and wind blast.
I've taken mine from John 'O' Groats to Lands end (not forgetting the ride to the start and the ride home ) and she coped admirably with out a hitch.
As for the Oxford panniers, I've used them many times, but you have to be careful. I've burnt holes in them 4 times now and have made a rack to keep them off the exhausts now. Infact I'm in the throws of making some hard panniers to complete the job.
So in short, go for it just go for it steadily

I've heard about the seats, my friend upholsters furniture, and I have two seats that came with the bike so I will let him have a bash at 1. Also I was looking on sites and wondered if a flip-up screen would help with the wind as this site seems to have 1 that would fit a dommie:

(but doesn't say what year) have the bikes front end ever changed?

Anyway I'm glad to here that people rate the bikes well, cheers for the advise.

Front end did change, some have built in indicators some have them on stalks, but whether this effects the mounting of the flip-up screen I wouldn't know. I just made my own from some perspex. Visit ozdom (type that into google to find it) an Australian Dommie site, they have a write-up on making and fitting a fly screen.
