PASSED TEST! but just wondering about the heat?

HELLO just passed my test yesterday and riding my dommie restricted to 33bhp.

i was just wondering on how hot these bike should get? within hour of riding the engine and frame are very hot, is this normal? or is something not running right? doesn't seem tro have burnt any oil up yet.

also when doing 70mph on motorway she sits at 5,000 revs, just wondered if this is around the same as unrestricted dommie? (mines 1991)

also the rear footpegs are wrecked, would normal ones from the found in the shops fit a dommie ok?

    cheers roger

The restriction should be on the fuel and nothing to do with the gearing, so if yours does 5K @ 70 then any other dommie of the same year should do the same, unless of course the sprockets have been changed from standard.

All bikes get hot, some more than others...Air cooled are again different than water cooled, remember that you're in the middle of summer

    Congrats on the test.

I had a VFR750FP (that i sold to buy an FMX) and the frame used to get so hot i couldn't comfortably touch it.

The front of the frame on the FMX (the oil res) gets nice and toasty too.

    Don't worry about it

yep the dommie is air cooled and the oil is in the frame so it will get very hot. You should try it off road. You end up going slow so it doesn't get very cool so when you hit a puddle then you can't see for a few minutes with all the steam!

    thats alright then.

i've been riding it everywhere atm, my cars just rotting on the driveway.

i'm also planning on taking it to france next year with my brother on his CBR600, and my girlfriend on the back of me. she's never really been on a bike so is still getting to grips with it when i take her out.

should be good though might need to harden the rear shock a tad, which looks like you need to take out the whole airbox and battery to get to it

i'll have to read the manual, lol.

p.s. sitting an 30mph the bike is very chuggy (2,500 revs), is there any bits that are common to come loose often? there's a small rattle behind the rev counter, should that be there?

    cheers roger

from what the other owners have said to me in that past and my own experience, it really doesn't like running below 3000rpm, that just a comman thing with singles i think. Tends to run really sweet around 4000rpm. And mine rattles like mad, even more of a problem when i get of my @ as it is so smooth!
