    Lecky start

Sometimes my dommi will start on the starter and sometimes not, just whirring instead, is this a starter motor, problem, or starter clutch?

    starter clutch

Although, if your battery is a bit run down it sometimes won't spin the starter fast enough to engage the starter clutch. (just a thought)

but generally it will be the starter clutch

My VFR used to do it if it sat too long on the sidestand as well

Don't know about Dommies, but the XBR (same motor but road going 500cc version) has a reputation for starter clutch problems

I had a feeling it might be the starter clutch, is this an expensive type repair then?

    Re: Lecky start

if your Dommie starter works when it's hot, and not when it's cold, it is the starter clutch. I've had the same probelm last year, didn't bother me too much as I used the kick start. Then decided for the repair. It's not complicated, but it involves some skill and care (removing and changing the case gasket , removing the clutch etc...) The part itself is expensive, I paid £240 for the OEM! And you need a tool for the clutch, and a very strong Allen key to unscrew the wheel holder (the dealer did that one for me). So don't start doing it if you don't know where you're going!! But when it's done, what a difference!!
