    Returning to the fold

Hi, I'm Mark, 45, single (not gay) with 3 expensive sprogs and I currently reside in Shipley, Yorks, but not for much longer.

I'll start right at the beginning, I saw a red Dommie in London, it was 1988 and it was blatting past Big Ben, I had a GTR1000 at the time (not much difference there then) but was instantly smitten, I had to have one. So I sold the Kwak and bought one, a red 1990 model and I loved it, it took me all over Europe with only a sore arse to complain about, it was everything I wanted in a motorbike, reliable, good riding position, light, fun and most important all it was as cool as fcuk............ so I sold it.

This would have been around 1998 when it had about 15.5k on the clocks, I bittery regretted it and I have been looking for the right Dommie ever since. The right Dommie had to be an early model, a red one and sub 20k miles, finding one is harder than you might think. In the meantime, whilst searching I have been doing what I usually do, that is getting pissed and buying bikes off Ebay that a) don't suit me and B) that I don't really want. In my garage now are 3 impulse purchase, a GTR1000 (No fun, don't like it), a VFR750FV (Superb but no fun) and a Vespa PX200 (Don't ask) all bought whilst "in drink".

Looking at Ebay last weekend I keyed in "Dominator" for what seemed like the millionth time and with about as much enthusiam as I could muster and what do you know? There it was, a bike just like I used to own, in fact, it was my bleedin bike. After getting all giddy with excitement alarm bells sounded, it was advertised with 17.2k miles on it. That was less than 2k in the nearly 10 years since I sold it. I asked the guy some questions about the bike, knowing full well the answers and he answered honestly, he had all mot's top prove the mileage, he even had all the paperwork I'd sold it with. The guy I sold it to immedialety traded into a dealers where the current owner bought it shortly afterwards and now it's mine again. I am going down to Sleaford to collect this weekend and I can't wait.

Happy to deal with any enquitries for a VFR750FV, GTR1000 or a PX200

Maybe not It all went a little pear shaped. I fell victim to digital camera syndrome. Although looking super duper in the pics, in the flesh is looked super duper duper.....................superficially. The fairing, tank and wheels gleamed but a thick film of dirt and sawdust (?) was baked on everywhere else, the thing was proper mucky. What disturbed me most was that when I sold it in '98, I decided to change the oil and filter ( being a nice guy and all) however I stripped a thread on the filter cover and though f**k it!

That thread on the allen bolt is still stripped today

I have a major clean up job in hand and will post a pic in a week or two, the thing is, I have missed this bike enormously, it's MINE and I am on a mission to make it just like it was when I last had it.

A recommendation for a gaitior supply company would be great.

Lovely story. I traded my 14,000-mile Dommie in yesterday against a Tiger.

Anyone recognise it? The registration starts off AF02... If it's your old one, I'll tell you which dealer has it and it could be yours again!

    Re: Returning to the fold

Well it's all back together, I'll bang a pic up tomorrow, the good news is it looks 100% better. The exhaust, although looking a bag of rust, came up like new when I wire brushed and painted it, a new battery and load of bolts replaced and it's looking pretty good.

The bad news is I think the oil was from 1998 I really do, it was the blackest goo I have ever seen. The filter screws are still stripped and I can't get them out but it at least it now has fresh semi-synthetic so that will have to do for the mo.
