    New tyres, and cutting out?

Had my bike in the shop today, I wanted a few things looked at, and I wanted the wheel bearings replaced so I had the new tyres fitted at the same time (Avon Distanzia). It would seem as though I am going to have to get the starter clutch done some time, but as the kick start works, there is no hurry.
So I picked it up at lunch time, and decided as the day was warm to take it out to bed the tyres in. so just an easy 50 odd miles out through Henley, Wallingford, Long Wittenham, Didcot and back round through Streatly and then home. Well the bike feels totaly different now, it feels a lot safer on the corners, but seems to wobble at every litlle uneven surface, it also did this with the other tyres, I wonder if that is due to the higher centre of gravity on these type of bikes?
A new problem(?) annoyance that happened twice while out, was the engine cutting out from tickover, just as you go to pull away from a junction, luckily the road was clear as I was stranded in the middle of the road! any ideas on that one?
It's a new bike to me, and I am still finding my feet with it, but it seems like fun at the moment.

First thing I'd look for with regard to the cutting out would be the diaphram lifter on the carb. You want the bike to tick over at around 1.5k too, which might seem a little high, but Dommie's like it like that Dommies have a CV carb, something that never really works too well on a big single, so to get round the problem of lagging, honda fitted a manual diaphram lifter operated off the throttle cable linkage. If you look at the carb from the RHS of the bike you should be able to make out a little arm resting ontop of the throttle linkage cam. this can get crappy and stick which will cause things to cut out when you first apply throttle. What happens is it sticks partly open so when you throttle on your not getting the benefit of the diaphram being lifted. Have a nosey at your carb and see if you can find what I'm on about. If it's getting stuck, a scrub with parafin on a tooth brush followed by WD40 should do the trick. If it's not that, then you might have to re-set the pilot air screw (which is a right pain )

As for the twitch over any minor bump in the road, I say you should check it out as it doesn't sound right (or am I just sooo used to riding tall traillies?) Have a feel of your swingarm bearings/suspension linkages. Get a mate to roll her over on the side stand to get the rear wheel off the ground, hold onto the swing arm and see if you get any lateral movement. there should be absolutely none, so any you get would indicate a worn bush/bearing.

    Best of luck

Thanks for that, I will have a look at the carb today (taken rest of week off work) and see what's what in that area, it only did it when the motor was hot after an extended run. I was at a road junction, sat there ticking over at around 1k, gave it some revs, dropped the clutch, and was away fine and then nothing, just died in an instant.
As for the handling, I am sure that is just a tall bike thing, the swing arm bushes were checked at the MOT last week, they have also been re-packed with grease. I am sure it is just me, as I usualy ride an old classic Z1, and this is my first trailie type bike, so it is way different from the norm for me, I will take it out again today as have nothing else planned.

Another day and no cutting out?

I took a trip out today around the backroads of Berkshire, taking in Pangbourne, Sulhampstead, then up through Padworth, out to Silchester, and around the Roman ruins, just past here I picked up a byway that ran between fields for around a mile I guess, with trees on both sides that encroached onto the path, this was a mixed track that started out with loose road chippings, and then turned into a gravel track with grass centre, the bike was a bit loose on the chippings, but much better on the track and mud. Actually I am well pleased with the new Avons, and they feel much better now out on the open road too.
Back to the route, the byway started near the Roman wall in Silchester, and ended in Stratfield Saye, from where I turned towards Mortimer, and then Burghfield, before once again heading home. The bike has been great, running fine, and not cutting out once.
