    Lightbulb Throttle return

Just put back together my '91 NX650, after full strip & rebuild, however I can't seem to get the throttle cable routing right. took pictures and put them back where I found them, but the twist grip is very slow to return. All cables were cleaned & re-oiled & moved fine on the bench so I can only assume it's the routing. Anybody got any tips?

Check you dont have the twistgrip pushed too far onto the handlebar. If you do the rubber end will rub on the handlebar and make a slow return. Also be sure the cables arnt to tight and fighting each other for slack

Is it a single or a double cable set-up. If double then try reducing the tension on each side of the cable as too much tension on one side can cause this effect.

thanks Kenny1950, but grips are open ended - due to Acerbis handguard fittment, problem still there even when I removed this & could see the plastic

thanks Kymmy - it's a double arrangement, and yes I took out all the slack to manual specification, I'll try putting slack in it as you suggest

Try loosening the small screws that clamp the throttle assembly around the handlebar a little and see if the throttle starts snapping back more easily.

I've had this on two Africa Twins now. I throw away the white nylon insert that the cables slide over and have a throttle that closes smartly at all times. I was worried the cables would fray when I first did it about 5 years ago, but my last bikes throttle cable was still fine after 130,000 miles (I oil them frequently) of which about 90,000 were with no insert.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I have found this on mine even with loads of slack in the cable, but in my case I found that when retightening the two screws (with the nylon guide in place) if you tighten the rear one fully (so the clamp is closed at the rear) and then tighten the front one................. the problem goes away
