    Dominator vs XR650L

    Hi!

I currently own a stock 88 Domie, I intend to make it a bit more "off-roader" 'cause having come from enduros a trail bike is a bit awkward This meaning I'm looking for better suspension, more space to put roadbook holder, Gps and so on...

Through my few researches I read somewhere (prob here) that the USA only (I think) XR650L is like a Dominator blended with a XR.

Having said this I'd like you gentlemen to help me in finding out what are the common bits and pieces between NX and XR L. For instance is the XR swingarm easily compatible with the Domie? Is there any advantage?

    Cheers and thanks

XR650L front end is a straight swop I think. Rear shock maybe harder as airbox is different shape. Looking to do the same thing to my Dommie.
Do a search on the Transalp site and look for TA to AT conversion. A guy there has changed his whole TA over to Africa Twin body work and put XR suspension on it too. Looks really trick.
I think XR400 front end works as long as forks are 41mm then should not have an issue. Need to also change NX wheel bearings to XR so as to accomodate the XR spindle.

    Hi Wittmann

There is loads of info about XR650L on the net , see in particular the Horizons Unlimited site . I had an XR650L and rate it as one of the best bikes I have ever owned , I am not sure of the exact differences between the XR and the Dommie , I believe they share the same engine but he XR has the cycle parts from the XR600, the Dommie has one into 2 exhaust and a 17 inch rear wheel , I dont know if the frames/ swinging arm are the same I suspect they are not and obviously the XR has better suspension. It may be easier to get a 650L they come up for sale in the UK quite requarly.
