    Clutch problems ?

Here's hoping someone's gone through this and recognises the symptoms. The clutch wire adjustment nut at the handle is as far out as it will go. Running cold I don't have a problem changing down, but when the engine is hot shifting is almost impossible ! With the engine running, and the bike in first and staitonary(ish) with the clutch in...she's creeping forward very slowly - but it is noticable. Anybody ?

make sure the cable outer is still held in the "gripper" at the engine end of the cable.

other than that....maybe a stretched cable

Is there any "play" at the lever? Should be just a little but if there's a lot you can take up the adjustment on the other end of the cable unless you've already done that.
Other than that I'd say you've got a prob which is most likely the clutchplates.
I've fitted an EBC kit to mine but I must keep the play to a minimum as I can feel it's not fully disengaging when hot.

Dont worry I've changed two of the blighters.
    It's an easy job.

Cant remember exact process but if you have a good look at the connections and bolts (in the middle holding the adjuster) you'll be fine.
Basically its undo from the engine end, remove adjuster (bolted on) remove from lever.
Refit new cable, I always start at the engine end....thread the cable through from the lever end then start fitting from the other end (engine).

    Does that make any sense

If you are worried about getting it back in the same route as the old one tie a piece of string too the end of the old one and feed it through, then tie the string to the new one and pull it back,

Good idea...although it shouldn't be necessary; whenever I've bought a replacement clutch cable it has been the complete 'thing', cable + housing.

I was wondering about the "threading" theory ! Not the one for hiding my DIY ignorance.. I've lost a nights sleep wondering how you get the wire through the existing sleeve with those there knobbly bits on the end of the wire. .... evrything's easy when you know how !

    Don't worry it's dead easy

I've once replaced the cable at night on the side of the road under a lamp post, I'd just bought a new one after noticing the difficult shifting due to cable stretch, but it snapped on the way home.

    Lucky me, eh?

(Riding the bike sans clutch is pretty easy, but I didn't dare tackle the maze of twisty little one way streets that was my home town at the time on something as on-off as the dommie.)
