SLR 650 Exhausts / Restrictor kit

    Hi everybody,

I'm thinking of buying a 1999 SLR tomorrow, but i want to buy a set of aftermarket exhaust pipes for it but i cant seem to find any about.

Does anyone know where to get a set of stainless exhaust pipes from?

Also, as i am on a restricted licence, i would need a 33bhp restriction kit. Does anyone have one for sale? I expect it would also be the same kit for the Dominator.

Any help would be much appreccciated.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Welcome to the forum,
The restrictor kit must be fitted by the dealers and have the appropriate paperwork for it to be legal.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

aah... okay i heard that there is nothing in the law that says who it must be fitted by etc, and that a dyno sheet would be sufficient proof that the bike is restricted if the police / insurance company were ever to ask.

THAT IS PUT ABOUT BY THE RIP OFF MANUFACTURERS i spoke too devon and cornwall police about this a couple of years ago, there is no legal requirement as far as they could tell to have anything other than the restrictors fitted, dyno read out would help. dyno it before fitting after market exhausts though, i think germany had the SLR restricted to 33 bhp as you see 27kw cdi,s on ebay there

    hi there,
your exhaust is most likely stainless steel, try rubbing them down. if i remember right, the restriction on the slr is done by moving one cable on the cdi unit. otherwise there is no difference in the cdi to the un-restricted version.

ok thanks for that, my dealer says that they can restrict it for me, but for an extra £200! What wire do you move on the CDI to make it 33bhp then? That sounds like a much cheaper alternative to paying the dealer for it.

    Thanks everyone.

    Re: SLR 650 Exhausts

i am attaching a drawing from honda germany, it is in german but it looks like that only positions a + b need to be swapped.

whatever you do is at your own risk - i cannot be held responsible if you fry or mess up your bike!

be careful when moving the cable as not to damage the plug.

    good luck

ps: maybe i should supply brief translation:

    description:

the model honda slr 650, type rd09 is offered to the market in two different power modes (engine power 25kw and 29kw).
the difference in engine power results from the use of different spark units and changed cable positions.

a specialised tool has been developed to remove the cables from the plug.

please don't try to remove cables with a screwdriver as that could damage the cable and the plug.

to change cable position proceed as follows:

remove the lid of the cdi plug

lift the lid carefully. the lid has four latches that can brake easily.

change the position of the green cable

depending on the model move the green cable from a to b (29kw to 25kw) or from b to a (25kw to 29kw)

wow, thanks for that, it looks kinda easy so i'll give it a go.

If that is all you have to do to them, what do F1 international supply to restrict the bike then? surely they're just restricting the inlet on the carb when there is no need.

    Re: SLR 650 Exhausts

sorry, and how d i find out if my bike is a type 'rd09'? it is a 1999 model registered in 2000 on a 'W' plate.

are the UK and germany cdi's the same, or would i have to get hold of a german unit?
    thanks
