Just got a SLR, info needed

    Hi Peeps,
I have just found this very informative forum as I have managed to get hold of a 1998 slr650 and now I need some info please.

1: ( and I feel a bit of a pleb asking this ) how do you remove the seat

2: what is the correct way for checking the oil level.

3: is there a 17" front wheel that can easily fitted with minimum effort

4: Will most/all engine parts be the same as a nx/fm and fmx 650 and what about header pipes.

    Thanks in advance.

    K.

    First off - welcome.
Never had an SLR but had a Dommie and assuming the SLR has the oil-in-frame with the dipstick behind the head tube?

Straight forward to check as no doubt you know, just make sure you check it regularly - moreso than a water-cooled bike. The Dommie burnt oil if you caned it on the motorway.

Our National meet is next Thursday, not far for you at Princetown on Dartmoor.

No excuses now!...... Check the calendar.

seat removal: undo 2 bolts under the seat, lift and pull to the back
check oil level: upright motorbike, idle the engine for a few minutes, remove dipstick, wipe clean, insert but don't srcew in. level should be between the marks.
front wheel: don't know, apparently the front end of the fmx fits
engine parts: nx, fx, fmx, xlr650l and even some other rfvc parts will fit
header pipes: fx and slr are the same, i think the fmx are slightly different.
if you're looking for performance pipes, which will aid cooling the cylinder head and increase torque, abp and egu racing in germany have them. egu have the biggest diameter.
