    Starting RPM?

Maybe be I'm being a tad over cautious but I'm a little worried, with the top end failure probs on the Dommie that my 'cold start rpm' is too high. For best results I start on full choke, and immediately back it off to half and it idles at 2500rpm. After 2 mins knock the choke off, down to 1500rpm and ride away. I suppose the question I ask is ..... is 2500 rpm straight away on a cold engine a little high? I change my oil every 1.5 - 2k miles.

    Re: Starting RPM?

    2500 idle is quite high.

What I usually do is start on full choke, back it off immediately to less than half to get the revs under 2000, and ride off right after that. A few streets into the ride I can knock the choke off all the way, then I'll still keep it under 4000ish rpm for a couple of minutes until the engine oil's properly warmed up. (Having an oil temp gauge helps here, I basically wait for it to read 60+ deg C before really opening it up.)

It can all be a bit season specific though, in the height of summer it'll start on half-choke or even no choke at all if it's been sitting in the sun, this time of year it needs the choke a bit more and longer, and if it's freezing it gets really cranky and won't idle properly for quite some time until it's warmed up a bit.
