XRing a Dommie isn't difficult at all. You don't need to repace the tank. You will, however, need to remove: headlight; front turn signals; instruments pannel. Once that's done with you can add a small digital tacho/speedo, or at least a neutral LED somewhere. Remove all front fairings, of course. Then add your headlight of choice - there's like 200 universal headlights for dirt bikes/ATVs. Acerbis and UFO are just two big brands in the area. These 3rd party universal headlights are usually much cheaper than OEM parts. Just make sure your new headlight has turn signals if you want to ride on the road
Something to consider while off-roading: the rear plastics always get damaged, even in the mildest of falls. You'd probably have to find some way to replace them.
I do have a second set of plastics and as it stands there on the bike, so if the rears get too broken i could put the nice ones back on. Couldn't go laning until i found some more but, hey...
The tank looks rubbish without the fairings on, as it has the holes for the lugs on the front fairings etc etc.
I know what you mean with the tank... but hey - it's cheaper than a new tank (good luck finding one below 200 euros.
Dunno if it helps but a fare few tanks on ebay Germany

Maybe an SLR tank will fit the Dommie, if you can find a cheap one (second hand).
