    SLR 650 Speedo Cable

    Hi everyone,

Today i was riding along and went straight across a roundabout pretty fast. Immediatly after the roundabout is the crest of a hill. After going over the crest i loked down and noticed that my speedo wasnt working. it was working immediately before the roundabout.

When i got home i had a look at it, and there didnt seem to be any damage. It turned out that it wasnt connected to the clocks at the top properly. I.E. It was loose on the thread.

Anyway, i tightened it up again, tested it up and down the road and it still doesnt work!

Anyone have any ideas as to what i need to do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

hi there, a thing for you try, loosen the top nut and give it a shake to make sure that the little square section of cable at the end is engaged into the socket then tighten it up. have done this on other bikes and not got the cable in properly before tightening and have jammed the cable. couple of snapped cables means i always check that sort of thing now. if that doesnt work, undo the cable at the clocks and roll the bike along to see if the cable is rotating. i suppose its all process of elimination at the moment.

Aah, thanks for that, i'll give it a go in the morning. Hopefully its just a snapped cable that i can easily replace, rather than the speedo drive or anything more serious like that.

    Cheers

    Quick Update,

Today i took the speedo cable right off the bike, and it turned out that it was snapped it the middle

Then, i checked that the speedo drive is definatly working, which it is!

I've ordered a new cable from Bransons Motorcycles in Yeovil, and they say it should be here Thursday afternoon! At £15.39, its not too bad in my opinion!

    Thanks for all the help!!

    Cheers,
    Rob
