FX Vigor oil filter

Hi,
3 weeks ago I bought this bike for my wife. I changed the oil (to Castrol GPS) along with filter and I suspect that something may be wrong as the old oil was very dirty - almost black and the new one after 250 km has the same pink colour on the dipstick as new. I suppose some of the old oil must have remained in the engine anyway and it should mix with the new one causing it to change colour (as it does in my XRV).

It may sound silly but according to NX manual the oil fiter should be installed with the "OUT SIDE" mark facing out but in the picture on page 2-4 the "OUT SIDE" mark is facing the the engine, not the oil filter cover. What should be the correct oil filter position?
Do you have any suggestions how to check if the oil pump is fine?

Tommorow I am plannig to leave work earlier and make sure that everything is correct with the pump and the filter so will be glad for all your answers.

it should be outside , have yuo got the PDF SLR manual ?? that shows it the correct way around and is more relevant ot the vigor than the NX one really

Thank you Mervinh for the answer. So I placed the filter correctly. I might have put the cover wrongly then. I don't have the SLR manual, have you by any chance?
