Been reading about oil conumption, luckily

My Dommie is coming up for 50K KMS... I have had it for 1.5k of those....

900kms ago I had the oil and filter changed and have been ignoring it since.

But luckily after reading a few pages on the internet about how much oil they use and only having 2 litres to start with I had a look

took 3/4 of a pint to get it two thirds of the way up the check stick....

So any new owners of the 650, keep an eye on the oil

    Wot he said.

Not all of them are boozers like that, and not all of the time either... But definitely keep a close eye on it if the bike is new to you, until you get to know its drinking habits a bit better.

Was going to post the same thoughts but you beat me to it and worded it better Rubberchicken

Also watch when your fillin up with oil let it have time to get down,if your mind wanders its easy to overfill and have oil all over the place never keen on the oil in the frame thing

Errrr ...... you DID use the approved method of checking oil level (run for a while, stop let it settle for a minute or two then check while upright), didn't you? I only ask coz when I first got Miss Whiplash I didn't do it that way and poured a pint in from cold, then wondered why she was smoking 'a bit' for the next 100 or so miles!

Re: Been reading about oil conumption, luckily

The non return valve in the pump doesnt work properly on mine so I have to get the engine warm (as in 2~5 mile ride)...

Pretty much, I just put a bit of oil in most times I go for a ride...if she kicks out clouds of blue smoke every time I accelerate/decelerate and puffs while idling I know I put a little too much :P

Mine normally used about 1/6 to 1/2 the dipstick of oil per 50 miles...VERY dependant on how I ride (High revs around the lanes and offroading consumes the most)...

Mine does seem a little heavy on oil though....will be using heavier oil next time (currently using 10w40, will use 15w40)

    Have fun
