NO, drilling a hole and attaching bike pedals to the crankase isn't going to work!

    hehe

I was thinking more of a crank handle and spin the beasty over that way :P

Wouldn't be the hardest thing I have had to crank start.....

    Re: Kickstart

You wanna try starting a 3.5 rover V8 on a starting handle. I used to do this regularly on my Land Rover. Very nearly broke my arm when it fired up the first time I did it and the handle didn't dis-engage from the dolly. Drove all the way up Quarry Bank hill with no feeling in my right hand where the handle clouted me.

    Re: Kickstart

haha....I hope you were holding the starting handle correctly (ie cupping your hand around with your thumb NOT wrapped around), because normally when you get clouted is because you were holding it wrong...:S

Having grown up with old tractors and stationary engines, a land rover v8 would be a welcome break :P

Old tractors with engines such as the Fordson Standard N with the 4L Petrol/TVO are nightmares to start....

A crank start bike would be fun :P

    Re: Kickstart

I was holding it correctly, I think, but the engine caught unexpededly and the handle flew out of my hand and whacked me before it dis-engaged. After that I always turned and pulled outward at the same time so that it came out of the dolly under control. The problem at the end of the day was that the earth strap from chassis to engine was corroded and was not making a good contact and so the battery was not charging enough. A lesson for all maybe.

    Re: Kickstart

    Fair enough.

As for the lesson...if in doubt take some else to crank it over :P

I think I will forget the kickstart idea...

Trying to sort out the probs on my other bike at the moment.

    Re: Kickstart

Actually I had wondered if parts from an early NX650 will fit the later version as I miss the kickstart and don't like depending on the electric boot. This is the first bike I have ever had without a kick start. My battery failed last year and the bike is a bit of a lump to bump start. In fact it wouldn't go in second, so I tried first and the thing nearly dragged me down the road with the front wheel in the air. I was that out of breath I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

    Re: Kickstart

Thats the problem with mine as well...

Bump starting is scary on it :P

I tried to bump start mine down a gravel slope....never again.....

I had tried in second and she wouldn't go, so I tried in first...
She fired up with a hellish wheelspin and wheelie :S

It was interesting :P (and also sadistically fun :S:P)
