fair does, let me know how u get on. iv been inflicted with a restrictor on mine and im sure since thats been fitted its made it cut out more and backfire more, especially when you throttle back or use engine breaking. so im guessing that says something towards it. upping idle a little helped to.

wonder what affect a slight rejet would do.

    Increase fuel consumption, likely.

    take the restrictor out?

its not like the FMX is much different without the restrictor in :S

    its limiting a whole 4 to 6 hp :P

I run normal 95 octane in my bike....

I cant be bothered trying to find anywhere locally that stocks higher octane...

    fair enough...

does the restrictor make a huge difference to the top speed?

    and what restrictor is it?
FI International washers or Honda's kit?

I know what you mean though, I was pretty resentful of having to have to pay to have it fitted, but its kept the insurance cheap.

Its an FI international kit. I've managed to pull 95 out of it. Whats the normal top speed without one?

Err... FI? As in Fuel Injection? Anyone willing to enlighten me?

The FMXs I know about can usually pull off the same redline top speeds as older dommies. Give or take 1-2mph. If I take that into consideration, you've taken the bike pretty close to top speed.

Did you read that 95 off the speedo or off some GPS?

thats with chin down to the handlebars looking like a tool as well. no i just read that off the speedo so would be interesting to see what it really was. most likely nearer 90

no fi international make kits for everything, carbed or injected. not sure wot it stands for but was cheaper to get one fitted with certs from private garage rather than going to honda and having one of theirs fitted. about 70 quid saving i think but works just as well. pain in the arse either way

Ok, so what does it restrict? I'm sorry -- I'm simply not familiar with these terms. Is it anything like power restrictions that limit a bike's hp so that it can be legally ridden by first-year motorists (i.e. just got licence)?

EDIT: If so, your bike has 33hp instead of 39hp - not a big deal.

    Re: Dommie cuts out?!

well basically its just a washer that acts as an orifice plate between the head and the carb. so it limits flow of mixture and therefore power to 33bhp as u said. Massively expensive but I think thats more due to the paperwork and registration of it so the paperwork says I own a restricted machine. I think limiters on how much u can open the throttle is a far better idea like they do with most injected bikes.

Yea it is a pretty pointless exercise really and I've hardly noticed any difference at all. But to that argument I may as well keep it on till I can legally remove it and live with it for the time being.

I've read in places that if you get pulled for speeding and they notice you have a restricted license they can easily order it to be tested (at your expense). Im not sure what the penalty would be for riding without it, possibly not much considering its not a huge difference but I guess it depends on the officers and where they draw the line. Also anything to keep insurance down (including behaving and not getting into trouble with authorities) is a bonus. Insurance is invalidated without it.

The only thing is I havnt ordered any new pipes or filters because I don't know what effect it will have on the bike with it on. Presumably not much so long as the exhaust has baffles which will restrict flow coming out the other end. Either way I think its worth waiting till it comes off.
