leaky cap on the cylinder head

im referring to the cap circled in yellow in the picture. firstly i'm guessing its its some way of getting at the cams or maybe just an inspection cover. if not what is it and has anyone else noticed it seeps a small amount of oil when the engines hot. i've kept an eye on fluid levels but as its only a very small amount of oil it doesnt budge. im kinda used to classic brit motorcycles so im used to th odd oil leak but was unsure on this as its an 08 bike

That holds the timing chain tensoiner. Time for a new "0" ring or as it's a tiny leak leave it for now as it's not a 5 min job.

If you've still got warranty on the bike, blaze to the nearest dealer and shout off at them. They're supposed to remedy such problems free of any charge.

Sidenote: '96 dommie with 40k km on the clock - no such leak. '92 dommie with 76k on the clock - no such leak. They'd BETTER fix it for free...

It certainly isn't a five minute job. I couldn't get this pin out when I had the head off my bike. To be fair I didn't try that hard and managed to work around it. It does hold the cam chain tensioner.

No oil draining needed. Cam cover off, drive wheel off cam, locking bolt out of tensoiner pin while hold tensioner lever with a magnet, then you can pull the pin out to change the O ring.
Prob is get the cam cover off. Someone on here did say you can wiggle it out of the way with the engine still in the frame but I'm yet to try it.

I can only tell you about the NX650. The rocker box cover will come off without removing the engine from the frame but it is a pig of a job. You have to remove the carb and the inlet tract first. There is no other way and believe me I spent all day trying. With the carb removed it comes off over the back and through the gap vacated by the carb. You may find it helpful to remove all the engine bolts and get the engine to drop in the frame. Though to do this you have to remove the exhaust pipe headers and the oil pipes (which means draining the oil, so plan an oil change.).
I tried to remove this spindle but I didn't attack it with vigour and didn't take it out in the end it is a tight fit and you will need some grips. The cam chain tensioner is held on this shaft. It has a one way rotating mechanism on it and a fairly hefty spring. Before removing anything once the cover is off stuff up all holes that go down to the sump as you don't want anything falling down there. You shouldn't need to remove the cam chain to renew this seal.
Good luck.
