If the tank cover is unstable, offroad riding WILL be a problem. If you tour a lot on-road without venturing off the tarmac, then a tank cover is fine. Otherwise it can lead to serious problems. You need a firm grip on the tank when the going gets tough; if the material isn't perfectly fixed to the tank, you'll have control problems. It would be like mounting 7/8 inch handlebars in 1 1/8 in mounts!

I`m thinking along the lines of a material cover. Some elasticated cloth or maybe red neoprene.

Theres a fair bit on the net about using dyes to colour tanks but, by all accounts, red is a bit of a no-no as it fades quickly.

I didn't realise until a couple of months ago that body shops can actually spray the leather on yours seats and interiors, thought that was qhite clever don't know why i thought that though

And here I am, pondering whether to take the ol' girl out for a few laps around a motocross-like track every morning.

I even considered TKC 80s, the most dirt-oriented street-worthy tyres. But they last so little on tarmac it's not a good deal.
