    Which Stand for FMX??

    Hi all,

Was looking at getting either of the following for my FMX:

    Paddock Stand
    Abba Stand
    Or fitting a centre stand

I'll be using it to carry out routine maintenance, nothing much more.

    Can anyone give any recommendations?

Centre stand and Abba are around £100. Paddock avearge £40.

Being a typical Scot i'm veering off to the Paddock stand side, but would stump up the extra cash if i thought it was really worth it.

    Thanks again folks..

    Hi,

    Any takers?

Surely someone must use one of the aforementioned stands?

    Any advice, greatly appreciated.

Not sure if Abba make a stand for the FMX, have emailed them but still awaiting their response.

So looks like Centre or Paddock stand.

If it's just for maintenance at home I'd get a little scissor bike jack to go under the engine, if I'm not mistaken the FMX has a flat underside just like the dommie, that you can just put a lift under. Something like this:

the fmx has a square section tube running under the engine.

Not sure it would be a good idea to try and balance it on that sort of stand

The centrestand has the advantage of being with you where ever you might need it (puncture, chain lubing away from home etc)

    Thanks again...

    update:

Just received the following from Abba..

    -----------------------------------------
    Hi,

We currently do not offer a stand for the FMX, you need a motocross style lift, that lifts the bike for the lower frame rails/skid plate, these we do not sell.

    Regards.

    -----------------------------------------

After listening to sbikerbud's advise, i'm not sure about the "lift".

Can anyone else offer any advise on maybe a paddock stand?

Or has anyone fitted a centrestand to their FMX?

    Thanks again guys, appreciate it...

    Re: Which Stand for FMX??

when i had my TTR250 i used to balance it on an old milk crate, the twin under engine frame cradle added to the large flat bash plate used to make it wonderfully secure.

The FMX (as mentioned above) has a single box section of maybe 6 or 7cm wide, it rocked all over the place when i tried to balance it on the crate to remove the back wheel (to change the rear sprocket). I gave up in the end.

I resorted to jacking it from the right foot rest hanger with the sidestand down on the left. Althought it looked precarious it seem solid enough.

Wouldn't do it too often though as it puts a large strain on what is admittedly a small side stand.

The centrestand would seem to be the way to go

    Re: Which Stand for FMX??

    Hey,

Thanks for the advice sbikerbud, definitely going with the centrestand. Cheapest I have found so far is £140 from www.motohaus.com.

If i find it cheaper i will post, also when i've installed it, i'll comment on:

    Supplier
    Quality of product
    How hard/easy to fit
If i would recommend or not.

Thanks again to all who replied....

    Re: Which Stand for FMX??

I have the same problem, i want to get mine of the ground, i tryed jacking it up on a piece of 4x2 wood using two wheely jacks but it was a nightmare and certainly couldn't of removed a wheel!! I wonder if a centre stand and a side stand can go on the bike at the same time like alot of early hondas ( really early as i'm 42! LOL) \Theres enough weight to carry as it is with the FMX's limited 37 BHP but if it helps save some money on maintenance i,m all for it. I asked about paddock stands the other day at my local bike shop, they said it would be fine for my bike, but now ive read all this i think i'l take the bike in an ask for a demonstration before i buy , you would need two as the front cant be placed on one without one fitted on the rear!! Keep me posted Hollayzfr1 and i will do the same as soon as they have some more in stock, i am waiting for that , should be tomorrow or Monday hopefully.

    Re: Which Stand for FMX??

Hi Hollayzfr1, i just looked at the stands from the LINK in your last post, can't quit make out wether or not you can keep the side stand in place or not from the photos, wish i had one in my workshop, i'd soon weld one up with my Mig for less than £140, mmm that gives me an idea, wonder if there's a market for my home made jobs, i can help you with workshop manual though, but iv'e already been told off for trying to advertise that so i'd better shut up.!!! I wouldn't want to lose side stand as ive only just managed to perfect my cool composure getting on and off the bike, it would completely destroy my credibility if someone caught me using a centre stand!!! Help
