Smile How to make a better mixture ? - SOLVED

Hello people, I'm having serious problems with my drunk dommie !
    She it's the reserve (13l tank, 89'model) around 140Km (86.99miles), I remember when she do 185Km (114miles).
I've taking out the carb, clean up everything twice, but i keep always argue in chinese with her and she keeps not understanding me! I WANT MORE MILES NOT SPPEEEEDD!!

So my question is, How do I make a better mixture ? How many turns do I have to turn (at the moment is 3 turns, from full tight position)!

She have a K&N air filter and a new Insulator (no more air leak), another symptom, she stall at low rpm 1500+/-, I always have to give her a little gas.

    Thanks,
    Rui

Post Update ... - This weekend I've big argue with my dommie! She was so upset, so she didn't start any more! So today I've change the spark, and when she start's, I went directly to my mechanic.

Problem: One valve stuck! So after he correct the valve and ajust all of them! She cames back again to what it was.

So there it is another tip to consider if anyone suspects of the following symptoms:

    - Very high consumption.
    - Problem to start (hot or cold).
    - Lack of some power.
    - Spark very black.

I've just came from my mechanic and I only made a few kilometers, but I will update the post to tell you if this work !

    Another thing that I learn
Jet Pilot - It regulates the mixture ONLY at low rpm!

Re: How to make a better mixture ?

This is a good guide for really getting the mixture right:
    CV Carb Tuning Procedures

Yes it's a lot of work to really get it right, it's not just a matter of adjusting the screw.

That said, if you've still got the original exhausts and a K&N filter that replaces the original in the airbox, not a K&N pod filter, then most of it should be close enough.

Setting the idle speed is not a matter of this many turns, the best approach is to warm up the engine, turn up the idle screw (on the right hand side) a bit so it'll keep running at say 1700 rpm, and then gently adjust the mixture (underside screw) until you get the most rpm at no throttle. Then you can turn the right hand side screw down again to 14-1500 rpm.

If you find that the mixture screw drops out of the carb before you're getting to the max rpm, then you might want to get a bigger pilot jet. I've replaced mine with one size up (#48 to #50) and then I could adjust it properly and that took care of most of the idle problem.

Another thing: How many miles has it done? My dommie had a worn out needle jet, making the midrange very rich (thus making the bike more thirsty as that's where you do most of your riding). I swapped this and put an iridium plug in and that made the bike drink noticeably less. It's this part that wears oval:

Wouldn't the best place to start be by putting a fresh spark plug in it put all the carb settings back to there standard positions then take it for a ride then let it cool remove the plug and see what that tells you. If you don't know what it's doing in the first place how can you correct it?? unless you have a dyno at home
