    Dommie forks and steering head

My steering head bearings are clearly 'notched' and need replacing.

So, I have bought a new set of tapered head bearings and thought while I am at the job I should service the forks so have also bought some new progressive fork springs and fork seals.

I have never done any of these jobs before so was looking for any tips or things to look out for.

Any fork oil better than others?

Also, I thought that while the forks were off and apart that this might be a good idea to give the forks a paint. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good tough and hard wearing paint that is reasonably easy to apply (I would imagine in the original silver)?

    Thanks

    Thanks Switch

GarageNight.tv looks like a great site and the page/video on replacing head bearings seems to be a good resource.

I always use wheel silver when painting the fork legs and never had a problem.(i also use the same paint on the swing-arm)

I would just fit your springs and change the fork oil unless the fork seals are leaking. When refitting be sure to have both in the same position in the stock clamps. Good time to fit gaiters if needed.

I had not thought of just changing the springs and oil. I haven't really taken a look at the forks because they have the boots over them. So I don't know if the seals are OK or not. If they are OK I guess it is a lot less hassle then taking the whole lot apart. Good suggestion - thanks.
