SLR 650 oil conundrum

Hi there,

This is probably going to sound like a silly question but I am a bit of noob. I just got a slr 650. On checking the oil the dipstick is reading very low. I would like to top it up but I have 2 questions. 1) What oil do I use? 2) Where do i top it up? Is it through the same hole as the dipstick at the top of the frame between the handle bars?

Thanks.

Yeap, same hole as the dipstick.
As for the oil it depends what is already in there, shouldn't go to far wrong with semi 10/40.
Better still give it an oil change so you know what's in and what to top up with next time as they do use a bit.

Don't simply top it up, run the motor first in case it's wet sumped a bit. If you do not have a manual the procedure is to run the motor until warm, allow it to settle for a miniute or so then check the level with the dip stick resting in it's hole not screwed in. Also as the bike has a wet clutch only use motorcycle oil or the clutch might slip. Car oils have friction moderators and are unsuitable. Semi synthetic is best all round. Happy riding.

Thought it is a wet clutch, if I'm wrong can someone confirm please because then I can use Castrol Magnatec which is top class oil and available from supermarkets etc.

Certain oil's can cause clutch slip. so if clutch slips when you have used magnatec you will have to change oils.
I have used 'car oil's' in various bikes and had no problems.
