I was running 16/42 on the last engine and it would pull to 115. Don't think it'd do that in 4th and yes Norfolks boring flatness does help.

Is that 115 mph as in 185 km/h? Was that with the engine redlined? I ask because 160km/h (as per the speedometer) would be the redline max for a 15/45 dommie...

My SLR with only 12000kms on the clock, opened-up airbox and re-jetted was timed with 2 different gearings, flat stretch of M-way at sea level:

    14/43 max 145kmh / 90.5mph

    14/46 max 148kmh / 92.5mph

My guess is that the motor will not redline in top (no tacho) with stock gearing, very few bikes will.

Top speed for a stock AT is 110mph. Same for a KTM 690 Duke with 65bhp.

Dommies do redline in 5th while still slightly accelerating. I didn't keep the bugger redlined long enough to see if I'd go much past 160km/h.

160kmh to 170kmh seems reasonable for a well sorted NX.

I never believe what the stock speedo says, most are very optimistic.

Always 5-10% more optimistic. The speeds I mention are clock speeds, since I didn't have the GPS mounted at the time.

stop watch and km markers on the motorway work for me. Downhill for 1km, flat for 2kms: time on the last km. Happens to include a bridge with a windsock.

The bike had a pro-duo exhaust, jetted carb and an opened out snorkle. (More like ripped out snorkle).
Yes that quoted speed was from the standard speedo but more importantly had the 21in front wheel replaced with a 17in so the speed is prob no different from any other Domi/slr out there.
I do use the bike for distance as well as around town so the gearing suits the long country roads. Down side is it makes the low gear "chugging" worse.
I'm hoping this bike with the fmx front end, including speedo drive with make the speedo more accurate.

Well whit kin a say. 115mph on a dommie, yer much bravier than me,, the thing if yer tellin the truth must be buzzing its brains out at that speed, i`d tend tae believe ye if ye said 103 mph or at a push 107 but the wind wid need to be begind you sayin that your causing the wind at that speed, ye`d need tae be goin down a big hill, flat on the tank an ye only weigh in at 7 stone,, tae be doin 115.C`mon...

Makes more sense with the wheel size mentioned

    90/92-21 BT45 has a diameter of 27,6", 120/70-17 BT45 is 23,8"

    115 x 23,8 / 27,6 = 99,17

    115mph on the speedo with the 17 incher = 99mph with 21".

Cat, you'll need the fmx speedo, most Honda speedo drives are the same ratio, its the speedo calibration that is different.
"Down side is it makes the low gear "chugging" worse." Any higher gearing than stock and I'd fry the clutch just getting out of my street... on the mountainside.
