A question:
where can I get a 13T front sprocket, not found one anywhere?
A comment:
My slr pulls a slightly higher top speed with 14/46 (148kmh)than with 14/43(145kmh) properly timed; it hasn't the power to rev out in top with the higher gearing, its just better for policed motorway speeds.
Switch........... thanks fur that detailed wording... do you think 13 would be too much, or jist go wi a 14 front sprock, i dont want Trials bike traction, I only want tae be able tae pull the front up a bit, with out ruining ma clutch too much............john
AFK, mate, I'm having real trouble understanding what you're trying to ask. Please excuse me if I answer the wrong question!
In my experience, the front comes off the ground in 1st and 2nd gear without any clutch play.
You should really try 14 before going 13. The difference is there, if you're used to the bike. If you've been riding only like 2000 miles on the bike, don't mod anything yet. It's likely the problem is with you, not with the bike.
I never could get the front off the ground in 2nd gear... at first. After a few months it became practice.
A word of caution: wheelies starve the top of the engine of oil. Riding for more than a few meters upright can cause abnormal wear on the distribution system. Constantly popping long wheelies WILL damage the engine eventually.
Switch, ive had around 5 dommies, an cannot remember what sprocks i had running at the time,, yes you are right about oil starvation.. i have Roasted two engines with doin long wheelies, and i know what am doing.. yes you can pull it up in 1st gear on the throttle, but Ive actuall pulled it up in 3rd gear before witha bit of the clutch, but basically 1st gear is too strong an to quick an gassy.. it needs to come up in 2nd until it floats then ye kin go up the gears... ive pulled it up in 3rd when in motion when commi9ng off roundabouts an stuff, but they are only half power half clutch show off wheelies whilst in motion...around 40mph.. but my usual approach is in 2nd gear, from around 20mph, half clutchin it, an it comming up...I have totaly wrecked two dommie engines, with continues wheelies, 2/3 nites a week in summer, 2/3 hours at a time practising...I have done wheelies on most bike ave been on but the Dommie on std sprocks, seems to be a bit reluctant tae pull up until ye mess wi the front sprock...... ye seem to be getting ma drift an answering ma question fine........ mabozzar
If you go down to a 14T front the bike will feel more responsive, wheelies will be easier in all gears but you will keep a decent top speed. Its also better for green laning.
13T seems unavailable, I've tried everywhere I know, so if 14T ain't low enough, you'll have to go up on the back.
Roughly one tooth off the front is equal to adding 3T to the back sprocket.
