    Honda FMX CDI tuning

Just found this on the internet:

    http://www.cdi-fmx.es/_equipo.html

    Any thoughts on this?
All those extra horse power with only another CDI?

unlikely, but not outside the realms of possibility. The FMX is detuned from the original Dommy after all. I know the cams are different, maybe the timing/advance is too.

37hp from a 650 is pretty pathetic in the scheme of things, so there is obviously scope for tuning it somehow

If it were just an inline resistor thing then i would be very suspicious, but it appears to be a complete CDI, so who knows.

Anyone brave/rich/foolish enough to try it?

The FMX is based on the NX. The NX '96 has a claimed 44HP (version without smog pump). Looking over the specs, I can't think of any particular reason for the FMX to be such a gran'ma. Likely less aggressive cams, smaller airbox and obstructive exhaust.

Since dommies can gain 10%-15% performance with less restrictive filters, bigger jets and larger headers&exhausts without much of a hassle, I don't see why an FMX can't hit that kind of performance levels.

That will be me. And very pleased.

    History of Bike
Bought 07 bike at a two years old as standard except for remus exhausts.
These were way too load for me.
Bought baffles for them. Still loud but better.
    No difference in performance.
Removed AIS system and very pleased that the backfiring was now completely gone. Well almost i can still make it happen.
Fitted WP lowering kit and bought low seat. ( I'm a shorty).
Had K&N jet kit fitted by PDQ. Very pleased.
Before and after dynos were similar (38 and 40 bhp) but actual performance on the road was like night and day. Fuelling now really good throughout the revs.
I've run like this for a while now and just fitted the the MQtech CDI and pickup.
Fuelling still feels good throughout, but it really has loads more as the revs pick up. Higher speed overtakes are now good. You don't chug past as it tries to pick up speed. It just pulls really quickly.
I've also seen a huge mpg increase with the cdi. 45 before 57mpg afterwards.
I've no idea what the bhp is now but I bet they are not far wrong and the mpg is a bonus as i can get a extra trip to work in before filling up.
Only thing left to do is get bigger headers and experiment with a different carb... but all in good time.
