sorry to keep banging on about compression, but those are the exact symptoms that my vaux nova suffered from when the compression dropped off on that.

Hard to start, loss of power

If you have taken the carb apart and cleaned it, i would say the problem lay elsewhere. Coil, spark plug,valves,piston rings

Just ordered a comp tester so ill find out in a few days. Thanks for the advice, i hope i dont have to pull the whole engine out

To check compression, right exhaust valve needs to be adjusted to either 0.01mm or 1mm clearence. Check the manual for exact value. The reason is that you have to prevent the automatic decompression mechanism from interfering with the compression measurements. Failure to do so will result in 5-6:1ish compression as opposed to normal 8,3:1.

She's alive! Not enough space to ride but it reved ok and didnt sound bad at all. Gonna try and check valves and comp etc anyway. Ill yet you know how i get on. Thanks
