I seem to remember removing the inlet stub on my 99 Dommie. That made it much easier. Mind you, when I was rejetting, i got fed up with taking the carb off. You can get the float bowl off and change the main and pilot with the carb in-situ by loosening the clamps and turning the carb for access to the screws. Same with the slide too. Just make sure the area of the bike around there is clean so you don't get bits dropping in the carb

gotta be honest though it feels like sacrilege taking a stanley to your bike lol

Getting the carb out is a pain in the arse, absolutely.

My usual routine for it was to unbolt the carb (front and back), take the side cover off the airbox, take out the bolts holding the airbox to the frame (1 on the left side, 2 up top) and pull it backwards a bit. It'll only move a cm or so but that's enough to be able to tilt the carb and get it out.

The carb can come out between the frame upright and the head. It's fiddly, but there is one way it'll fit.

(My record time for this procedure, swapping a jet, and putting it back in and all the bodywork back on is about 2 hours.)

    And about that snorkel:

Re: Where to get nx650 jets

right i continued today on the carburettor. Finally managed to open it. Everything seems stock in there. I ordered a #158 jet. and a whole lot of new bolts cos i kinda broke every damn bolt on the way to the carburettor even had to use a dremel to get some bolt out (dont you love old bikes ).

Now next question, how do you get the needle out. I took the mainjet out but the needle seems stuck in there.

    :EDIT:
nvm with some common sense and some experience with 2 stroke mopeds i figured it out.

btw you can disconnect the piece of rubber between the airbox and the carburettor makes things a lot easier

Re: Where to get nx650 jets

Which jet was in there? #155? ("Stock" tends to vary from model to model.)

*nodnod* on the bolts. I managed to get most of them undone except the one at the bottom of the cylinder head. The one that's bloody hard to reach and was stuck so hard I nearly snapped the hex key. And I did snap the left one, which was a definite oh crap moment, snapping your first bolt on your first bike and it being one that goes into the head... Aaagh.

I do wonder how come yours is so lean, though. Mine runs fine on #50 and #152 actually, and I cut off the snork to give it more air, even. Then again the single sided laser can apparently gives a bit more backpressure, that might be it.

Re: Where to get nx650 jets

I too thought mine was running way lean according to the plug, but plugs don't get that coffee brown colour anymore that they show in the Haynes manuals and such. Mine were a dull greyish white even after I'd stuck a #165 in there and it was running far too rich. Did a few dyno runs and ended up exactly where I started out except for the bigger idle jet.
