Dominator speedo stoped working

Today my speedo stopped working. RPM meter is working fine so are all other functions. Also i noticed the rattle noise im trying to find for a while now got worse. So my assumption is the rattle must be somehow related to the speedometer.

Now i got some questions.


1. What in the cockpit could cause a rattle above 3k rpm.

2. Ill check the cable if that is broken but how do i find out if its the mechanism in the wheel or in the cockpit that is malfunctioning.

3. how do you get the cockpit unit of the bike? I took off the 2 big nuts that hold it in place but i cant figure out how to get all the cables out that go in the back.

4. is it worth it to repair the cockpit or would you just get a new one.

Quite frankly I would start at the other end first. The speedo cable is easy to check. In my experience the plastic gear in the wheel drive mechanism gets stripped. These are available from Dave Silver or Wemoto and the last one I bought cost about £20. In the wheel end the steel worm drive siezes up and once that stops turning the nylon teeth strip off the plastic gear. I always made apoint of cleaning out this mechanism and oiling it EVERY time I had the front wheel off.
If the cable and gear are fine the I'd probably look out for a replacement speedo/console on eBay as it will probably be cheaper than a repair if you can even find somebody who can repair it.
