    Re: SLR 650 Rev Counter(?)

FX 650 Vigor clocks (Exactly the same [internal design] as the SLR's engine.)

NX 650 Dominator clocks (Slightly different engine design)

Looks like the SLR has a redline of 6900rpm and the Dominator has a redline of 7200rpm. The SLR has a detuned engine; different camshaft etc. I don't know if the engine was changed in other ways whilst the design was modified (ie. removal of rev counter 'cable port'). Or was the 'cable port' removed when changed from NX to SLR then added once more when changed into FX?

All CDIs for NX(RD08.)/SLR/FX/FMX have 6 pins. One of those pins connects to the tacho.

As for redlines, the mechanical redline is 8000rpm (still, short pulses above 8000rpm won't kill the engine outright). Stupidly, the CDI is limited to 9000rpm. You shouldn't reach 7k rpm under normal operation on neither of these bikes. 6500rpm is the upper shift point.

Looks like a rev counter would be useful then. Does anyone know if the vigor's clocks and tacho cable would fit?

I'd have thought you'd get it on with a little fiddling. But I think the (tacho) rev counter will be electric. Normally 3 wires, + - and a feed from the coil wire.

Hey thanks man! I had it in my head it was a cable , don't know why... that might make it more straight forward, if I can find the 'bits' on the engine to put the wires on. (I'm not great with electrics...) Where are they on the NX/FX?

They're all in the loom. Black/yellow from the positive side of the coil, a switched positive supply, (red/black from the ign switch) and an earth, (Green).

Thanks catteeclan , now theres the option of getting some cheap fx vigor clocks and wire them into the loom as they would be on the fx.

Well I'm off work because of the snow at the moment so have time to tinker with electric bits again.

What do you think of this universal rev counter here, it says it's for single cylinder 4 stroke engines:
SUPER BLUE REV COUNTER TACHO RPM MOTORCYCLE & MOTORBIKE on eBay (end time 14-Jan-11 09:45:12 GMT)

Or if you can recommend another one that is better.

Bad idea. It runs up to 16k RPM and you only need the first 8k, including the redline starting at ~6800rpm. Also, like most ebay tachos, there's no install guide available to check for compatibility.
