Some advice needed on trailtech vapor instalation

Switch and others have been great with giving information about the trailtech. But today i actually got the kit and im facing some problems.

First is where to place the magnet. The magnetbolt they send is like M10 which is way to small since honda uses like M14. So your left with either drilling a hole in the disk which is not a option because there really isnt any place for that. And the other option is using this thing:

it will fit one of the spaces in the disk but it has room to move around so i will prob need to glue it into place or something.

Then there is the problem with the sensor. The instructions say you have to drill a hole somewhere but i find the instructions kinda low on information on this point as it still leaves me wondering where to exactly place the sensor. I'd like to know this before is start drilling holes in my brake calliper

then my last problem is the lights for the dashboard. They come attached to a 6pin plug which doesnt fit the dominator so they also gave you a attachment to solder the lights to the right lead your self but they dont give any instructions how to do this.

    The sensor:

XR400R: I drilled a hole in the caliper bracket to mount the sensor along side the magnet bolt.

You're right, though. Nice kit, but on the whole it seems to be a case of "here are some bits we think might be useful: good luck with it!"

The sparkplug temp guage is a waste of time!! No way it was ever going to fint round the plug and still be able to thread it into the head...

yeah when i unpacked it i was kinda wondered why they gave like 3 options for everything only to discover when i started installing the stuff that its one big puzzle the heat sensor is going to a oil line btw atleast thats what the instructions say i got with it and thats what switch adviced.

btw i figured out i just re use the lights from the original dashboard you can just pull em out and they are exactly the same as the ones that come with the TT dashboard and fit right in so thats one problem less =) Im also gonne use the 12V connection from one of the lights i dont use anyway and i think i can also hack the ground wire in somewhere. Btw does anyone know if you can hack the tach cable that goes in the original dashboard for use with the vapor?

Can't imagine it's much different from the XR kit to mount but here's how i did mine.

mount the screen where you want it.

For powering it all i did was find the 2 wires that fed the backlight of the original dashboard and connected the power cable to those connectors, as long as i ride with the lights on the bike will power the dashboard if i turn the lights of th evapor will use it's internal battery. I only needed to indcator bulbs high beam and low beam so the 2 cables that come with the vapor bulbs i just inserted into the exhisting light connections and cables tied them to the loom cable so they cant come out.
Rev counter easiest bit of all just get a load of cables and wrap it around the coil lead ht side them taped it to sop it working loose. Engine temperature sensor didn't bother with it's air cooled dont know what optimim cooling temperature should be so pointless fitting it. Speed sensor was easy for me, but i may have some different bits to you but you can buy them from trailtech if you want them.

First remove 1 brake disc bolt, the bolt that comes in the trailtech kit is a magnetic disc bolt, it has the magnet mounted on top of the bolt head

you can clearly see the bottom bolt is different to the top bolt. Then take the caliper off mount the sensor where you think it should go but don't secure it or anything. Spin the wheel with the cable connected to the dash unit to see if its reading speed. If it is drill the caliper or hanger and i used self tapping screws on mine and it's been fine since

hope this has been of some use to you, oh and just for info th eair temperature sensor on th etop left of the vapor always reads about 10 degress higher than it actually is on mine i contacted trailtech about it and they say they know about the problem but can't seem to find a solution as the air temperature sensor is mounted in th edash and the head coming off the LED's and other bits throws the sensor out after it's been on for a while. My not happen with your but certainly does with mine

For the ground, I used one of the wee bolts that hold on the ignition coil.

Trailtech did recommend a dedicated earth as an earth share with other wires sometimes caused bugs in the unit.

As for the tach: it is so easy to install: just wrap the wire around the HT lead, and job done: don't faff about with the original, IMO...

    I'll answer & advise:

    - use the + and - from the front parking light (under headlight); easy to hack and simple lights-on reminder
    - I fixed the M10 bolt fixed into the plastic disc-cover that covers the inner-area of the brake disk.
    - alternatively, a thin piece of aluminum can be fitted between 2 or 3 brake disk mounts. On that piece of aluminum one can fit the M10 bolt.
    - One can purchase an M14 magnetic bolt
    - fitting of sensor is NOT similar to XR models, because the caliper mount is different in shape

right i finally had some spare time today to find a way to place the sensor. I came up with this ded simple solution

Simply used the screw hole that was already there to hold the plastics that cover up your diskbrake/forks. Think im gone redo it with bigger bolt and replace the nust for self locking ones just to be sure, since i dont want it to end up in my wheel at 80mph or any speed really

Good idea, however I'd use a spacer beween the sensor and the mount, instead of two nuts. Use a lot of washers if you don't have spacers. I'd also use two self-locking nuts on the wheel side.

Also, make sure the thing doesn't (i.e. physically cannot!) rotate or speed sensing might be off after a bumpy ride (usually this means it will go from normal to twice of normal or no speed at all).

Remember you can always drill a second hole next to the existing one -- that area of the sensor is just plastic.

I have been thinking about using a spacer but i couldnt find one. ofc i could go for the ****load of washers XD. I already pland on using self locking nuts. This was juts to test if it works. And it works =) now next step is to do this so it stays in place and with the plastic on

Re: Some advice needed on trailtech vapor instalation

So have been busy again today

Connected the vapor to my battery and finished the speedsensor.

Now all i need to do is connect the temp sensor but that will come later. And a nice piece of aluminium and make something to hide all the damn wires
