Unhappy Plenty of fuel, engine fires but won't start????

    Hi,
My bike suddenly stopped, as if out of fuel, a couple of weeks ago. I have stripped and cleaned the carb and there is a good spark, but the engine won't start. It fires as the starter turns the engine over, but the engine won't run.

It has been in the bike shop for over a week now and they don't seem to have any idea either.

I hope that somebody might be able to help???

    Cheers Rob

You,ve got fuel /air and a good spark....... and you say it Fires as the starter spins it, but wont pick up and run, there is so many ways you can approach this one. Assuming that all is set as before when it was running ok
If it where mine I would......

Check the choke aint stuck open/closed
Check the throttle open /close cables are not over /under ajusted
Is the carb float bowl filling/ float valve sticking closed.
Your sure its a nice fat spark and continious as you spin it on starter..?
    Fit new s/plug
Pull the air filter out and try it...... squirt a bit of easy start direct into the carb as you spin it up........brrrrrrruuuuum

this is what I would do cause it sounds like fuel problem , but it could be something totally different and lots of other opinions out there.

What type of garage is it main dealer or independent ??
Let us know how you get on.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the advice.

The bike is a 96 Dominator. I have given up on the bike shop, their only mechanic is off sick and we have to move house next week so the poor old bike has been brought home in bits and will have to go up to the new place in the removal van.

I am quite sure now that it is not a fuel problem and I will see if I can borrow a compression tester as I feel that it might be a stuck/damaged valve.

    Cheers Rob
