    I know that its stupid but that is that was just what i needed.
    run through it this morning left it for a good 5min to warm up and closed the choke and seems to tick over abit high at 1500 - 2000 so turned it down to about 1500 and its ok just now and then splutters and drops off but keeps running.

    Runs ok but when i drop the revs off for gear changers she back fires and the revs just drop right off?

    On a big single the engine revs do drop alarmingly when throttling off with the clutch in to change gear, but as long as they don't drop below the correct tickover speed (1300-1500rpm) don't worry.
    When downchanging give a little blip before you let the clutch out again so that the revs match the rear wheels speed.

    As for the backfiring, do you have a non-original replacement exhaust on your bike?

    i have the original twin exhaust on.

    just got back from another test ride and been pulled over by the police for having my brake light not working correctly.

    anyway we both looked into it and turns out that the front brake lever wasn't pushing the switch back in all the time because the part of the lever is to short so to be fair he was grate about it told me to get off back home (only a mile or so away) and sort it out.

    so looking for a brake lever part number or link please

    lol my front brake does the exact same!!! Although I havent been pulled by the police yet...

    Anyway, sometimes loud pipes can make it go pop and bang. Seen as it's the original it won't be that.

    Is the worst of the problem that it just goes pop? Does the bike judder or loose power/smoothness? Or is it just the noise?

    i think i must be cursed no if that was the case i would be fine but unlucky for me i cant get her to idle for more then minute.

    It won't idle even with the tick over at 1500rpm?

    not really it will for a minute or so but then sounds like its hunting for air or fuel or something? then it will run fine then just drop revs all of a sudden then pick back up and be ok but the next time it drops a little more and so on till she cuts out

    also i am using a K&N air filter could that be whats up?

    Try the choke plunger. See if it's worn or needs replacing, or just cleaning.

    I have a problem with my front brake lever as well, has to be pushed forward for the brake light to go out. Thinking about a new brake light switch or seeing if there's a spring somewhere.

    It sounds like the choke isn't returning to it's normal position, check the cable isn't shot and what the other member said.

    I wouldn't use a K&N filter (or equivalent) without putting a bigger jet in the carb. I don't know if that would cause your problem but stranger things have happened .
