    NX Fairings

I recently bought a 1988 NX650. The bike is in really great shape, with only a little over 5,000 miles. The fairings are all there, except some of the tabs are broken off inside. This prevents me from buying and installing the inner fairing pieces. I'm trying to find a good set of used or new fairings. Every website I try says they're all discontinued. I was hoping someone on this forum could answer a few questions for me.

    1. Will bodywork from a later model fit my bike? I love the newer design, and the style of the rear carrier.
    2. I know its a long shot, but are there any aftermarket large tanks out there?
    3. Where is the best place for getting replacement bodywork/seat?

I'm worried about buying fairings off ebay, because mine are in good condition still. I'd like a replacement set just in case. I've been searching for a few months now and can't find much of anything. This bike is immensely popular all over the world, there has to be some country somewhere that still has bodywork for my 88'. I'll order from anywhere, and pay whatever the price is, I would just like some good bodywork. Any information anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Think the chassis was the same from 88 to 95 so it should all fit.

    2. Yes. Do a search on here, don't think anyones selling at the mo but there was a group buy happening at one time.

    3. Breakers and ebay would be the norm although there are a few people on here flat tracking their NX's so could be worth contacting once you've joined.
Good luck and enjoy your bike.

    1. '88 to '94 (RD02) should fit, provided you fit all of whatever version of the panels you choose. Early style can't be mixed with late style RD02. Tank's different too, early one is 13l late one 16. 1995 and later won't fit, frame is different.

    2. Acerbis have or had tanks for all the NX versions. The one for the '88 isn't made anymore and is RARE. Later ones, dunno. This too depends on what you do with the bodywork, as said can't combine '88-'90 tank with '91-'94 fairings and vice versa.

    3. New ones will be nearly impossible to find and very expensive and probably unpainted if you do. Good used ones... Yeah, ebay and a lot of luck, though most of it will be in Europe I guess.

I notice you're in the States, so presumably you have the US-specific model? Dark blue fairings, rear drum brake?

    Re: NX Fairings

Thats great, thanks so much for the info! I have the 'Astro Blue Metallic' fairings - the only color it came in here. I love the colors it came in everywhere else in the world, so I was thinking about buying all the bodywork parts and just making it look like a 1990's model. I can actually find new fairings and bodywork for the 92-94 model, so I'm up in the air what I'd like to do. The acerbis tank would be great to have, but if the later model tank is bigger that would probably solve my problems.

Yeah, the 13 liter tank is a bit tiny isn't it? Especially as I could only ever squeeze 12.5 liter in... (That's filling up after running out across the road from the station!)

I don't know if I would've gotten the (massive!) 21 liter Acerbis one if my original tank had 16 liters.

Mind you, I think you'd need a different seat as well if you go for the later look. Tank, fairing, seat, side panels, they all interlink.

    Re: NX Fairings

I'd be fine buying the seat as well. But I'm looking now and the 92-94 panels seem to be just as hard to find as the 88. I was looking at the 95 and later thinking they would fit. I'd have to buy mismatched ones and paint them. So if your fairings are in decent condition and already the same color, that saves me time and money. Plus I like the look of the older fairings, I think it really gives it that 80's look.

Can't promise when that'll be, but I'll have a look at them next time I'm at my parents place...

Hey just wondering if you came across your set of blue NX plastics yet. I'm still interested, thanks.
