Sorry spg,
Didnt read it properly, yes I have checked that connector ( the one that seems to be in between the ignition and the fuse box ) no luck with it. Weather is crap just now so am not spending as much time on it as Id like to. My garage doesn’t have power and I have no way to heat it so being a big softy I have just left it alone for the past week or so.

Shame !! mine was a simple fix ...... happy hunting ???

Thanks mate,
unfortunately thats the problem. I know its a short to earth somewhere but I cant find it. The good news is I just found out the local auto electrician will do bike. He didnt used to but the old boss is retired and the new guy is one of them geniuses that build choppers and is happy to take bikes in.
I didn’t want to take it to the local bike shop because they would just charge me 45 quid an hour to poke at it the same as I can doing myself.

Just to finish this thread off,
After many hours stripping the bike down and checking every connector and earth I could see I gave up and took the bike to a local auto-electrician. The guy there was very good and found the fault in no time. It was a wire which come out of the master fuse and went to the rectifier which had corroded and snapped off. I didn't see it because it was wrapped up in a black cover but the cover was loose so the assumption was that crap from the front wheel had been getting down it and corroded the joint.
It cost me £60, I think that was the minimum charge as in actual time it wasn't much of a job for them. Its my own fault for being such a numpty when it comes to fixing things, Im much better at breaking stuff.
Still, at least its fixed in time for the change in the weather which Im sure will happen any day now.
many thanks to everyone who tried to help.

Great news, and the nice thing is your bike didn't get covered in salt like the rest of us !!! Enjoy yourself
