Instrument panel not working.

2005 950 Adventure

Hi, just started the bike up to check the battery and the instrument panel is not working. Everything else seems fine, bike starts and runs fine the headlights and tail lights work fine. Its just everything on the dash. No lights no digital readout and no rev counter.

Any help in where to look for the problem most welcome.

Best regards and a Merry Christmas to all

Re: Instrument panel not working.

Most likely a fuse, is the fuse for the instruments in the glove box? There is a bit of a story attached, I found that the batter was going flat every week or so while its been sitting in the garage. I traced this, just by chance to the heated grips being wired directly to the battery. By removing the fuse for the heated grips the batter now holds its charge but I now have this new problem. I replaced the heated grips fuse just to check but still no instruments.

Too much eating and drinking to be done today, will have a look at it tomorrow and report back what the problem is.

Re: Instrument panel not working.

Sorry mate, no help offered here, as heated grips aren't S.O.E. in the tropics, but I go with Stan, check all fuses in the tank boxey.
If not that, then try the old AT remedy, disconnect the battery for as few minutes, reconnect, then try to on the ignition again?
(I know it'll be a pain to undo the underneath protection, but........?maybe?)
Good luck!

Re: Instrument panel not working.

Its worse than I first thought, I have no indicators, brake light or instruments. The trouble shooting guide in the manual says
"Replace fuse HORN BRAKELIGHT SPEEDO" but I have checked this and it seems fine, I replaced it anyway. The bike has not moved since it was last working and I have started it up as recent as last weekend at which point everything was fine.

Try disconnecting the connectors and spraying them inside with WD40, I had a mate with a Fireblade that would'nt start, took the r/h control apart cleaned it and gave it a squirt....... ChaChing!! .

I kow it sounds simple but sometimes moisture can be the cause. .

Re: Instrument panel not working.

Hi , i know that this link started a while back BUT i have just had the same thing happen to my 950 Adv , did the same as you and could'nt find the fault until i looked at the large connector at the top of the frame behind the fuse box a wire had come out !!!! seems to have corroded and then fell to bits so stripped it out managed to get the metal connector out of the plastic connector soldered it up put it back and on came the clocks!!

I hope yours is as simple to find and fix??
