ktm advice

for trails, attempts at enduros, and general fooling about on private land - what are people's choice?

I'm thinking 400/450 EXC, any bigger and too heavy for enduros, and any smaller not much fun riding to the trails

do the EXCs come road legal?

Re: ktm advice

Somebody may come along here and totally contradict me , but as far as I know the EXC model is the Enduro spec bike and is road legal.

The SX is the crosser version

I THINK !!!!

Re: ktm advice

Wat he says, except some more "focussed" peeps put the roady stuff from an EXC onto an SX.

I have a 450 EXC and love it. Depends on your experience and physical size but people say the 400 is smoother and more forgiving for a novice. The 450 does try and pull your arms off when you get tired and it doesn't care that I'm 17 stone in my shreddies, (not that I ride in my shreddies).
Don't expect there'll be much difference between them on the road. The older 250 was a bit flat and the new ones are a bit more race focussed and need more TLC.
Get over onto the KTM forum for buying advise. You won't regret going Orange.

Re: ktm advice

I ride a 450EXC in enduros etc and love the electric start as well as the ease of getting it registered and on the road. The 525 is a bit of an animal as the one that I rode had me either wheeleing or fighting the handlebars when the throttle was applied a bit excessively coming out of corners a bit quickly. At least on the 450 the power comes in a bit more favourably.
The SX is the MX version, but people have been known to put them on the road. They don't have the mid-range that the EXC has,but the SXS comes with better brakes and all sorts of other goodies.Expensive to buy as well.

Re: ktm advice

if you buy a ktm , buy one from a uk main agent
such as edmundson racing , norton canes near cannock ,,,, derek edmundson , paul edmundsons brother , world enduro champion , kickstart champion , remember the 80`s , lol

when you buy it , itl be unregistered , if you ask the dealer to do it , itl cost about 90 quid extra plus plate , usually

you cant usually register an mx bike , but most modern hondas , and kx`s etc , now come with a log book , for insurance purposes , so getting a daytime only mot for a new crosser is now quite easy !
